El Día de los Mu***os, or The Day of the Dead, is often synonymous Mexican Halloween, but its tradition is rooted in much more than that.

El Día de los Mu***os is usually a two day celebration and remembrance of loved ones who have passed. Mexicans use these days to gather with their family and remember their loved ones by sharing stories, going to festivals, and sharing food. Every household creates an ofrenda, a place or a table where they place pictures of deceased family members, and they decorate with marigolds, candles, and papel picados.

Most importantly, Día de los Mu***os is a reminder that loss and grief shouldn't have to be experienced alone.

This year, we are offering the community a place to share photos of our loved ones who have passed. This can be a friend, a family member, or even a pet. We also have a community journal on the table for anyone who would like to share a story about their loved ones.

We are heartbroken to learn that Sally Gagne, a dear friend and great supporter of the Northville Public Library, has passed away on September 20th.

She spent so many years volunteering her time as a clerk for the library. In 2014 she received the Volunteer of the Year Award for her hard work and dedication to the Northville Public Library.

We will miss the maple sweets she would share with us every fall and winter. But most importantly we will miss her smile and her kind heart.

Our hearts go out to her family, and if you would like to share a story or kind word with her family, you can do so at this link:

We are heartbroken to learn that Larry Dillenbeck, a dear friend of the Northville Public Library, has passed away.

Once, when one of our cabinets was built incorrectly, Larry spent his time taking the whole cabinet apart and rebuilding it. This was the kind of person Larry was: always willing to help someone in need, and he would do it with a smile.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 30th at the Northville Funeral Home from 12pm to 2pm.

Our hearts and thoughts go out to Diane and her family. If anyone would like to share a kind word or story for his family, please follow the link to his obituary: https://www.northvillefuneralservice.com/obituaries/Larry-M-Dillenbeck?obId=49680846
