NORWICH POLICE DEPARTMENT MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Norwich Police Department shall be to promote a partnership between the community, businesses, government, the media, and law enforcement designed to reduce crime, encourage transparency, and improve the overall quality of life, while encouraging the community to determine its own needs through the exchange of ideas and problem-solving techniques by implementing a proactive patrol which will ultimately project a more professional image of the Norwich Police Department. We will work collaboratively with the community towards effective problem resolution. We will support education efforts directed towards enhancing public safety and crime prevention. In order to maintain the public’s trust and support, we must hold ourselves to the highest ethical and professional standard. We each have a duty and obligation to play an active role in improving internal operations and delivery of services to the community. We provide consistent and equal treatment to all through courteous and impartial service. With continuous improvement we need to plan for growing technology, education and training, remaining open to new ideas and concepts in Law Enforcement.

Attention Gile Mountain Hikers! PLEASE do not park on Turnpike Road. This is an annual challenge for us, and we would really prefer NOT to tow vehicles. However, we will. That is a wildly unnecessary expense for you, and huge time suck for us. Please consider meeting your hiking party at the Huntley Park and Ride and carpooling! Oh - and do remember to make sure you are prepared for the hike! Thanks!

As I load the truck up for work this morning, my mind is thinking back 25 years ago. I had been a police officer for 6 short months, about halfway through my field training period. What a career this has been. My heart longs equally for 9/10 before that horrible day, but also for 9/12. That was the day where we were more united as a people than any other time in my life. I imagine it is similar to December 8th, 1941. I wish we had the drive to stay united like that. Anywho, have a great day, and take some time to think about how we can all get along a wee bit better…

Hi All! Just dropping in to let you know about this happening over in Lebanon, NH. A reminder if you see an animal acting weirdly, your default should be to assume it has rabies and stay away!

Friday we walked the Norwich Deputy Fire Chief through the capabilities of our new Variable Message Boards. We really believe in the “One Team - One Mission” idea and do our best to bring as many of our partners to the table when we have tech and widgets that can be deployed by non-Law Enforcement for the betterment of the community. Our two departments will be training together later in September.
