Our hearts are with the children found in an abandoned house in Dayton last week, and with their mother.
We don't know this family or the circumstances that brought them there. But we know families like them. Every day at Bethany House, we meet parents, most of them moms, who did everything they could to hold on until one lost job or one missed bill left them with nowhere safe to go. Many stay hidden because they're afraid to ask for help.
No parent should have to face that alone, and no child should go without heat, food or a safe place to sleep.
If you or a family you know in Greater Cincinnati needs help, please call the CAP line at (513) 381-SAFE (7233). Reaching out early opens more doors.
We got new information today from Dayton Police about the six children they found living in this abandoned home on Delphos Avenue.
Police told us, “This sounds kind of just like a mother of many children basically trying to do the best she can with all these children.”
At the same time, they added that officers are having the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office review misdemeanor child endangerment charges against that mom.
