Lawmakers have sent Gov. Maura Healey a bill designed to unlock a new future for a hospital property in Norwood and a lawmaker from that town delivered a late-night speech Friday imploring the property's owners to "get out" of Massachusetts.

Today, my colleagues in the senate joined with me to pass legislation authorizing the commissioner of capital and asset management to begin taking the property at Norwood Hospital should a transaction with a qualified operator not be completed in the next few months. I'm an unceasingly grateful to State Representative John H. Rogers who has been a leading champion for this bill, Norwood Hospital and the town, and to my senate colleagues, particularly Senate President Karen E. Spilka. It has been a long and arduous process to rebuild the healthcare infrastructure in Norwood and the surrounding towns, but we will not rest until we have a qualified provider in this hospital.
