We're on it! 💧

This Water Professionals Appreciation Week, we're thanking the crews who keep Novato's sewer system flowing.

That controller isn't for gaming. Our team uses it to steer a camera through sewer pipes, spotting problems before they reach your neighborhood. It's modern technology paired with an old-school work ethic. 👏

Did you know? ♻️

Items labeled "compostable" can't go in your green compost cart. That includes the green produce bags that replaced clear plastic ones at the grocery store, as well as those compostable cups, plates, and utensils.

Why? Our regional facility produces certified organic compost, and these items can leave behind plastic residue that isn't allowed.

Please place them in the trash instead. Thanks for helping keep our compost clean! 🌱

It's California Water Professionals Appreciation Week! 💧 A big thank you to our water professionals, who quietly care for every drop that leaves our homes. Their work protects our community's health, keeps our Bay and waterways clean, and returns water to Novato as ultra-clean recycled water for our parks and landscapes. 🌊

From our operators, mechanics and engineers to our lab techs, collection crews and office staff, thank you for keeping it all flowing. You may not always be seen, but Novato couldn't run without you! 👏

Used motor oil can spell big trouble for our environment if it's not disposed of properly. Just one gallon can contaminate one million gallons of fresh water, so it's important to keep it out of our bay and local waterways. 🌊

Do your part: drain it, contain it, don't mix it with anything else, and bring it to a certified used oil recycler in Novato. ♻️

The Conservation Corps of the North Bay (CCNB) provides free pick up of residential e-waste every Monday and Thursday (except holidays) for Novato residents. The e-waste collected by CCNB will be securely recycled by a certified e-waste recycler in California.

What's the real cost of food waste? 🍌🥕

Wasted food is wasted money. The average family of four throws away $1,500 worth of food each year! 💸 Planning meals, storing food properly and eating leftovers can make a big difference.

For the scraps you can't avoid, where they go matters. In the landfill, food releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Down the drain, it can clog your pipes and our sewer system. But in your green cart, food scraps get turned into a rich soil amendment.

So, scrape your plate into the green cart, including meat and bones, and help keep our pipes clear, our planet healthy and more money in your own pocket! ♻️💰

Novato Sanitary District's franchise agreement with Recology requires recycling and composting of organics to reduce food waste in our landfills and make progress toward our ZERO waste goals. For questions or information about composting, visit Recology's website
