Online math game for grades 3–6 that builds skills, boosts confidence, and makes learning fun again. Hi – Brian McCoy here. All children are intelligent.
I am a teacher and a fitness enthusiast. I currently teach 6th grade in Northern California. My calling in life is to help children learn the essential skills necessary to have a successful academic career. As a student, I struggled with the learning disability of dyslexia. This has had a dramatic effect on my philosophy of education. I know how it feels to be intelligent, yet feel dumb because yo
u are struggling to understand a concept. Some have gaps in their learning due to a wide range of challenges and/or learning disabilities. Some have nurturing home lives that promote success, while others come from disadvantaged home lives. As a teacher - my mission is to reach them all and help them excel. I am a former collegiate gymnast
I became enthralled with the sport of gymnastics when I was in elementary school. As far as I was concerned, gymnastics was the next best thing to living the life of Tarzan, swinging from tree to tree and doing battle with the wildest of animals. As time past and my skills improved, I became a highly ranked gymnast. It was the one thing that gave me a sense of accomplishment. Where school made me feel insecure because of my dyslexia, gymnastics gave me a self-confidence. It was my drive force for attending college. Gymnastics also taught me many things about being a teacher. First and foremost, anything can be accomplished provided you learn the proper progressions. Second, children excel most quickly when they are motivated with positive reinforcement. And finally, all children can succeed. My calling is to help as many children as I possibly can. I am a coach
By the time I was in ninth grade, the director at the local community college ask me to help him coach entry level gymnasts. I took to coaching right away, excelling at using positive reinforcement to motivate young gymnasts. After college, I entered the teaching credential program at Sonoma State University in California. While getting my credential, I spent a number of years coaching a competitive boy’s gymnastics team. I find no better reward than the intrinsic feeling of helping others achieve their goals. I developed Fitnastics
In 1990, my brother-in-law talked me into completing in triathlons. Personally, I think his motives were self glorifying. He had competed in both swimming and running, while my sport of gymnastics was about as far from triathlons than anything. Triathlons require hours of sustain endurance, where gymnastics is about a minute and a half of explosive power. To this day, we have a deep mutual respect for one another. The challenge was a blessing in disguise. I began modifying my gymnastics strength into Fitnastics training. I have a home gym
I have a set of gymnastic rings hanging from the rafters in my garage. I think lifting my own body weight is far more enjoyable than lifting dumbbells. It is also an incredible core strength workout, because in order to complete any skill you have to maintain a solid core position. Fitnastics training incorporates gymnastic strength with a cardiovascular training of running, swimming, and/or biking. My personal goal is to remain physical fitness throughout my entire life. I love hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, and running with my dog. I plan on doing all of these activities until the day I kick it. I would love to hear from you
Please feel free to contact me. I look forward to meeting new friends!
