๐Ÿš’ FIREFIGHTER SAFETY IS A TOP PRIORITY! ๐Ÿš’

Ensuring our firefighters have safe, reliable, and properly functioning equipment is a responsibility we take seriously.

Our SCBA air cascade system has recently undergone a complete service and its required annual breathing air quality test. This testing is essential to ensuring the compressed air used to fill our firefightersโ€™ SCBA cylinders meets the required breathing air quality standards.

Additionally, all of our new SCBA packs and masks have successfully passed their annual flow testing! These tests are a critical part of verifying that our breathing apparatus is functioning properly and will perform as designed when our firefighters need it most.

When our crews enter a smoke filled or hazardous environment, their lives depend on this equipment. There is absolutely no room for shortcuts when it comes to firefighter safety.

Protecting our community starts with protecting the firefighters who serve it.

We will continue making firefighter safety, equipment readiness, preventative maintenance, and training top priorities.

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ FIRE PREVENTION WEEK! ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

We had a great time this morning welcoming the Nowata Pre-K classes to the Nowata Fire Department!

Our firefighters and EMS personnel enjoyed spending time with the kids, teaching them about fire safety, showing them our fire trucks and equipment, and helping them understand what first responders do to keep our community safe.

One part of todayโ€™s visit was having our firefighters put on their full protective gear, including their air packs and masks, to show the kids what a firefighter looks and sounds like during an emergency. We wanted them to understand that even though we may look and sound a little scary in our gear, we are there to help, and they should never be afraid of a firefighter!

Of course, no trip to the fire station would be complete without a little fun! The kids even got the opportunity to spray some water from a fire hose!

Fire prevention education starts at a young age, and we hope the lessons learned today will help keep these little ones safe for years to come!

A special thank you to Firefighters Renz, Freeman, Hawn, Jarvis, and Austin, along with Nowata EMS Medics Lee and Gipson, for taking the time to educate our young visitors and make todayโ€™s experience both fun and memorable!

We would also like to thank the teachers and students for coming to visit us! We truly enjoyed having you and seeing all those smiling faces!

๐Ÿ”ฅ STRUCTURE FIRE โ€” McCAFFREY STREET ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Last night at approximately 2132 hours, Nowata Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire on McCaffrey Street.

The first-arriving engine was on scene within three minutes and encountered a story and a half residential structure with heavy smoke and fire showing from the Alpha side.

Crews immediately initiated an aggressive interior attack, making entry through the Alpha side of the residence. Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control and contain the the fire to one and a half rooms.

Additional crews conducted ventilation operations and checked the attic and surrounding areas for fire extension.

Most importantly, all occupants were able to safely evacuate the residence after being alerted by working smoke detectors.

๐Ÿšจ This incident is a perfect example of why working smoke detectors save lives. Early warning gave the occupants the time they needed to get out safely before conditions worsened. Please take a few minutes to check the smoke detectors in your home and make sure they are working properly.

A total of 30 personnel responded to the incident. We greatly appreciate our neighboring departments and partner agencies for their assistance, responding agencies included:
