Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, we pause to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courageous first responders who selflessly ran toward danger. For those in 9-1-1 and emergency services, your work embodies the same dedication and bravery witnessed on that fateful day. The lessons of 9/11β€”courage in the face of uncertainty, service above self, and unity in responseβ€”continue to guide us.

We remember those who perished, the strangers who helped one another, and the responders who risked everything. We honor their courage by recommitting to the values of vigilance, compassion, and resilience, and by ensuring that their sacrifice is never forgotten.

May today serve not only as a day of remembrance but also as a reaffirmation of your vital role in protecting and serving communities. Thank you for continuing to answer every call with professionalism, bravery, and heart.

Never Forget. Always Serve.

πŸšΈπŸ“š BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER πŸ“šπŸšΈ

As students across our community head back to school beginning September 1, North Whidbey Fire & Rescue would like to remind everyone to help keep our children safe on their journey to and from school.

πŸ›‘ Drivers: β€’ Slow down and obey school zone speed limits. β€’ Watch for children crossing streets and walking near roadways. β€’ Be extra cautious during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. β€’ Stop for school buses displaying flashing red lights. Children's lives depend on it. β€’ Put distractions away and stay focused on the road.

🚢 Students & Parents: β€’ Always use designated crosswalks when available. β€’ Look left, right, and left again before crossing. β€’ Stay alert and avoid distractions from phones or earbuds. β€’ Review your family's back-to-school safety plan and routes.

🚲 Bicyclists: β€’ Always wear a properly fitted helmet. β€’ Follow traffic laws and signals. β€’ Wear bright or reflective clothing to increase visibility.

The start of the school year brings more buses, more vehicles, and more children to our roads. A little extra patience can go a long way toward ensuring every student arrives safely at school and returns home at the end of the day.

β€οΈπŸš’ From all of us at North Whidbey Fire & Rescue, we wish our students, teachers, school staff, and families a safe, successful, and enjoyable school year!

πŸŽ‰ Join Us for National Night Out! πŸš“πŸš’πŸš‘

Come out and celebrate National Night Out, an annual community-building event that brings neighbors together with local law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other public safety agencies. It's a fun opportunity to strengthen community partnerships, meet the people who serve our communities, learn about local resources, and enjoy an evening with family and friends.

This year, Island County will be celebrating at three locations:

Whether you're interested in checking out emergency vehicles, meeting first responders, learning about safety programs, or just enjoying a great community event, there's something for everyone.

We hope you'll join us as we celebrate the partnerships that help keep Island County safe. We can't wait to see you there!
