Hello everyone! I hope y’all have had a good week so far. Models have finally come into good agreement on a low-pressure system getting close enough to us to bring in rain and some breezy southerly winds late Saturday through Sunday, with showers possibly continuing into Monday. Models once again start to disagree as we go into next Tuesday and beyond…

Saturday will be cloudy but dry for the most part as the aforementioned low-pressure system develops off northern Vancouver Island. It will then drift down until it sits just off the Washington coastline. Widespread rain will move in over the area either late Saturday night or very early Sunday morning and last through about mid-morning on Sunday. Rain will turn to scattered showers from then on and maybe even into a chunk of Monday. Breezy southerly winds with gusts around 25–35 mph will be blowing pretty much all of Sunday, especially around North Whidbey. Rainfall totals may get up to around a quarter to half an inch in the wettest areas of Island County…

Other than the chance of a few odd rain showers, Monday will have variable skies with temperatures around seasonal in the mid-50s…

I’ll be back with the next forecast either on Sunday or Monday! Take care and God bless! : )

Good evening, everyone! This will be a shorter forecast, as not much is expected over the next couple of days…

Thursday and Friday both bring a chance of morning fog, with otherwise variable skies. Temperatures will be seasonal to slightly below normal, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s…

Saturday starts similarly, with morning fog possible in some areas. However, models are tracking a low-pressure system dropping down from the Gulf of Alaska and paralleling the coast through the day. The upper-level pattern is complex, so the models remain split on the exact track. How close the system gets will determine whether we see rain and possibly some breezy winds. The outcome is literally still up in the air haha. Either way, nothing significant is expected—just be prepared for the chance of some rain Saturday evening into Sunday…

We’ll take another look at the weekend forecast on Friday, hopefully with better model agreement. Take care and God bless!

Happy Wednesday morning! So far, this Fall has been rather benign in terms of weather other than a couple of odd, strongish cold fronts. This will continue for the foreseeable future, with weak weather systems mixed in with strong areas of high pressure as the atmospheric theme…

*Today*, a large ridge will quickly build over the West Coast, leading to clearing skies this afternoon. High temperatures will be above average for this time of year, in the low to upper 60s depending on how close to the water you are…

On *Thursday*, the high pressure will reach peak strength over the region. This will lead to dense fog across the Island County area, with visibility getting down to around a quarter mile or less in some areas. Fog looks to last through the entire day for some areas, especially those closest to the water. High temperatures will be similar to Wednesday, albeit cooler in areas where fog stays socked in…

*Friday* looks to be a very warm Fall day, with high temperatures climbing into the mid-60s to mid-70s for most locations! Easterly winds coming off the Cascades from the big high-pressure system will lead to drying and warming of the air over us. This will make it hard for fog to form, unlike Thursday, while also bumping temperatures up to well above average for this time of year. It will feel like a Summer day but with less daylight…

Unfortunately for those who want more warmth, a weak cold front on *Saturday* will crash high temperatures back into the upper 50s to low 60s. Rain showers will move in early Saturday morning before likely clearing by early afternoon. Breezy westerly winds will also accompany the front and last through most of the day, with gusts around 20-30mph…

*Sunday* will be one of those classic gray and cool days that people from outside the region assume are what we get 99% of the time here in the PNW. Highs will be in the 50s…

Well, I hope everyone can get out on Friday to enjoy the beautiful weather, as who knows when we will see temperatures in the 70s again. There’s a little bit of everything for the second half of this week, so if you don’t like the weather, wait a day! Take care and God bless! : )

Today is the 64th anniversary of the most destructive windstorm on record to hit the Pacific Northwest: The Columbus Day Storm of 1962. It ravaged the region with gusts well over 100mph in many places and even a gust of 90mph was recorded in Oak Harbor. Does anyone have memories of this crazy storm or know of other people's experiences? Feel free to share them in the comments!

6:23AM: The cold front is currently moving through Island County right with a short but very heavy band of rain moving south and east over Whidbey Island. Westerly winds are already picking up behind this and will last through pretty much the whole day, especially for places closest to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

A couple weather models are starting to show westerly wind gusts tomorrow potentially reaching up to around 50mph for some areas, especially during the morning hours. Chances for some scattered tree damage and gale conditions on the area waters will be higher if this does occur! Places like West Beach and Ebey's Landing will have the strongest winds as usual due to their proximity to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Good evening! Fog-tober is off to a strong start this year as parts of the area have had fog for about two days straight! This is due to a large, stable area of high pressure over the region that is causing the air at the surface to not mix much. This will continue through Thursday morning before a system brings in gusty winds to stir up the atmosphere. This also means some rain before things clear up later on Saturday and into early next week…

Fog, dense in areas, has returned this evening with visibility at NAS Whidbey and the Coupeville Outlying Landing Field down to about a half a mile or so. This will continue through Thursday morning before some westerly winds gusting to 25-35mph come down the Strait of Juan de Fuca in the afternoon to mix things up.

A cold front will move in on Friday morning bringing a short period of widespread moderate to potentially heavy rain and then gusty to strong westerly winds behind it. The rain may impact the morning commute. Rain will quickly taper to scattered showers for the remainder of Friday through Saturday morning with most areas not getting much after the morning round. Winds will surge in around 7-9am with little warning and going from basically nothing to 35-45mph. Winds will remain elevated, especially for areas near the Strait of Juan de Fuca, through the majority of Friday. While this is nothing to write home about, it is still early in our storm season so a few nuisance power outages will be possible. The area waters will have small craft advisory conditions with potentially gale conditions at times…

As we go into Saturday, a few showers will be possible, but we will mostly be transitioning into a cool, Fall post-frontal airmass with clearing skies. The same is expected for Sunday before Fogtober starts knocking on the door again next week as another stagnant area of high pressure moves in. However, models don’t have the foggiest idea of what exactly is going to happen beyond that so we’ll leave it at that for this forecast…

If anything crazy changes with the models for the system on Friday, I’ll have another forecast later tomorrow, but if not, then I’ll have the next one out on Sunday. Take care and God bless!

10:59AM: Very dense fog continues this morning for some of the area as a stable ridge of high pressure settles over our region. The visibility is legit down to about a 1/10 of a mile in some places leading to dangerous driving conditions. Please be extra careful out there in the fog! I'll have a forecast out later today for all the details for the rest of the week so stay tuned. 10/07/2026

7:17AM: There is some very dense fog over the area right now so please take extra caution if driving this morning! I just drove to Burlington and some spots likely had visibility close to 1/8 of a mile. Below is a map of the recorded visibility at several stations.
