🎃 HALLOWEEN SAFETY REMINDER FROM SHERIFF JESS McMULLEN AND THE FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT 🎃

Halloween is a fun time for children and families across Fayette County, and we want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable evening while trick-or-treating.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department encourages parents, children, and motorists to keep these simple safety tips in mind:

• Stay Visible: Wear bright or reflective clothing and carry a flashlight or glow stick.

• Cross Safely: Use crosswalks when available, look both ways before crossing, and never run out between parked cars.

• Stay Together: Young children should always be accompanied by a trusted adult. Older children should stay in groups and follow a planned route.

• Check Your Candy: Parents should inspect all treats before children eat them. Avoid any candy that appears opened, damaged, or tampered with.

• Watch for Traffic: Drivers should slow down, remain alert, and watch carefully for children, especially in residential neighborhoods and near intersections.

• Stay in Safe Areas: Stick to well-lit streets, use sidewalks whenever possible, and never enter a stranger’s home or vehicle.

Our deputies will be out serving the community, and we ask everyone to do their part to help keep our children safe. A little extra caution can go a long way toward preventing an accident and ensuring everyone gets home safely.

Sheriff Jess McMullen and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department wish everyone a safe, happy, and enjoyable Halloween!

Stay safe, look out for one another, and have a great Halloween!

Fall is here, the leaves are falling.

We are experiencing a period of warm and dry weather. There is no rain forecasted for the next 10 days.

While we realize everyone is eager to get them cleaned up, we recommend that you wait until we get rain before you burn.

If you do burn, please be aware of the burn laws and call Fayette County WV 911 and advise them you are burning to prevent unnecessary dispatch of the local Fire Depts.

Thank you for your support.

We want to express a heart felt “Thank You” to the Fayette County Community Corrections Day Report Center.

They sorted and bagged, by individual school, over 1,400 Fire Prevention bags for our department to distribute to the schools. This effort was monumental in taking the task off our department. We really appreciated their hard work and dedication in volunteering to handle this for us!

If you know someone in the program, let them know how much they are appreciated!

Thank You Commissioner Miller for seeing first hand what the Fayette County Fire Fighter Training Center has to offer not just locally but also regionally and a desire to understand what our local Fire Depts do to serve its citizens.

Fire Prevention Week at the Oak Hill Fire Department!

The Oak Hill Fire Department was excited to welcome students from Solid Rock Christian Academy for fire safety week. Each year, we look forward to hosting these young learners and helping them build important fire safety knowledge that they can carry home to their families.

During their visits, students learned about fire prevention and safety through an educational presentation, a tour of the fire station, and a firsthand look at the equipment our firefighters use every day. This year, students also enjoyed a new educational video to help reinforce these important lessons!

Our firefighters covered essential safety topics, including kitchen and dryer safety, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, home fire escape plans, and the importance of knowing what to do in an emergency. Students practiced remembering Stop, Drop, and Roll and learned to stay low and crawl beneath smoke. They also had the opportunity to see our firefighting gear up close and learn why firefighters wear protective equipment, helping them understand that a firefighter in full gear is there to help—not to frighten them.

From exploring the fire trucks and learning about our specialized hydraulic rescue equipment to seeing the station firsthand, these visits give students a memorable, hands-on learning experience. As a bonus students and Mrs Hurley received a special ride back to school!

We would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the teachers Mrs Hurley, Mrs. Lawson and helper Miss McCann who brought their students to visit us this week

We appreciate the time and effort these educators put into giving their students opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. It is always a pleasure to welcome our local students, answer their questions, and help them feel more confident about fire safety and the work firefighters do in our community.

Thank you for visiting with us! We are proud to serve the Oak Hill community and invest in the safety and education of its youngest members. ❤️

Remember: Fire safety starts with learning, and even our youngest community members can help keep their families safe!

Thank you SRCA!
