During today's Last Day of School excitement, there was a hint of nostalgia at Sward Elementary School as they excavated their time capsule from the year current 5th graders were in Pre-K. It was a great way to celebrate the journey of the 5th graders at Sward before sending them off to middle school next year, while also showing all students what Sward was like years ago.

Today was full of special moments for the Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School Class of 2026 as they get one day closer to walking across the stage as the 20th graduating class of OLHMS. Select 123 Scholars were honored for their distinguished success with a breakfast before all 8th graders joined together for an awards ceremony recognizing students for their perseverance both in and outside of the classroom. To wrap up the afternoon, this class of 8th graders visited their former elementary schools for a graduation walk reflecting on where they started at District 123 before they move on to high school. Congratulations, Class of 2026! We look forward to celebrating your accomplishments at the commencement ceremony tomorrow evening.

The 2nd graders at Hometown Elementary School went on an adventure today to the Emerald City to find the wonderful Wizard of Oz! Directed by Mrs. Tully, Mrs. Strelow, and Mrs. Sheedy, this year’s production featured a talented cast of young performers who brought the classic story to life with energy, creativity, and plenty of heart.
This beloved tradition began in 2004 with Mrs. Mary Matusiak, a former 2nd grade teacher whose passion for her students inspired the very first performance. Although Mrs. Matusiak has since passed away, her legacy continues to shine through every child as they chant "there's no place like Hometown!"

District 123 Math Enrichment students recently visited District Office to learn about 10 different careers from local professionals, seeing how math can be used in everyday life. Then, the fifth graders took a leadership role at the Early Learning Center where they taught Pre-K students math concepts with hands-on learning experiences including number recognition parking garages, pizza number matching, and shape tallying. What an amazing way to lead young learners and see what the future may hold all in one day!
