Let’s protect kids getting on and off the school bus! Here’s a little school bus refresher:

🟡 Yellow means slow.
🛑 Red means stop.

Stopping for school buses is the law in all 50 states. Following it protects young lives. Stay alert for slowing or stopping school buses, and do your part to help keep our students safe!

This week, we’re celebrating our amazing school bus drivers during NHTSA National School Bus Safety Week.

Every day, our drivers do so much more than transport students to and from school. They are often among the first friendly faces our students see in the morning and the last to wish them well in the afternoon. Through their kindness, patience, and dedication, they help create a welcoming and caring environment that extends well beyond the classroom.

Safely transporting students each day is a tremendous responsibility, and our drivers take that responsibility to heart. From early mornings and busy afternoons to navigating changing weather and traffic conditions, their commitment to keeping students safe makes a difference for our entire school community.

To our drivers, maintenance staff, and transportation office team, thank you for the care you show our students, the important work you do each day, and your commitment to getting our students safely to and from school. We appreciate you!

Students and families had a wonderful time exploring math together at this week’s Family Math Night! Through engaging math and strategy games, families discovered the power of math fact fluency and how focusing on reasoning and strategies rather than memorization can lead to big success. Families also headed home with math fact fluency kits to keep the fun of learning going at home.

Earlier in the day, our teachers participated in professional learning with mathematics educator, author, and speaker Dr. Jennifer Bay-Williams, and focused on strengthening math instruction and supporting student success.

Thank you to our teachers, students, and families for making learning a fun, shared experience!

Today, staff gathered at ORHS for a meaningful time of professional learning with Houston Kraft from CharacterStrong!

Together, they explored what it truly means to be kind and how to be more intentional about putting kindness into action in their schools. From everyday interactions to small gestures that make a big difference, staff were reminded that kindness is more than a feeling and it's not random. It's a choice we make through our words and actions.

Thank you, Houston, for encouraging us to think about the impact we can have on our students, colleagues, and school communities through intentional acts of kindness!

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month!

As our students, families, and staff travel to and from school each day, we encourage everyone to help keep our community safe.

When walking, pay attention to what's happening around you. Watch for traffic before crossing, stay visible, and avoid distractions along the way. Drivers, remember to slow down in school zones, stay alert near crosswalks, and always watch for pedestrians.

Pedestrian safety is everyone's responsibility! Together, we can help ensure everyone arrives at their destination safely.
