πŸͺœ Ladders: The Next Step! πŸš’

For Monday night's training, Kellogg Rural Fire District firefighters took things to the next level β€” literally!

Our drill focused on safely raising, extending and lowering our 24-foot extension ladder. All of our firefighters participated, with our cadet firefighters getting some valuable hands-on experience working together a two-person team.

Ladders are essential tools in firefighting, providing access to roofs and upper floors, helping firefighters reach people who need rescue, and allowing crews to safely access areas during fire suppression and ventilation operations.

It might look like a simple drill, but proper ladder handling requires communication, coordination and teamwork. These are fundamental skills that every firefighter needs to practice and master.

We're especially proud of our cadets as they continue building their skills, confidence and teamwork!

Every great firefighter starts with the basics β€” one step at a time! πŸš’πŸ”₯

πŸ”₯ IT'S CHIMNEY FIRE SEASON! πŸ”₯
As fall temperatures drop, wood stoves and fireplaces are firing up across our community!
Before lighting that first fire, make sure your chimney and flue are clean and in good condition.

🧹 CLEAN IT: Remove dangerous creosote buildup.

πŸ”Ž INSPECT IT: Check for damage and blockages.

πŸ”₯ BURN IT RIGHT: Use dry, seasoned firewood.

πŸš’ REMEMBER: If you suspect a chimney fire, get everyone outside and call 911 immediately! Never assume the fire will burn itself out.
Stay warm and stay safe!

πŸ”₯ STRUCTURE FIRE β€” OSPREY DRIVE
Yesterday at 12:19 a.m., Kellogg Rural Fire District was dispatched to a fully involved structure fire on Osprey Drive. Initial reports indicated the home, which was unoccupied at the time, was completely engulfed in flames.
Crews from Kellogg Rural Fire District, Oakland Rural Fire Protection District and Sutherlin Fire Department responded and fought the fire defensively. A defensive attack is used when conditions make it unsafe or impractical for firefighters to enter a burning structure. Instead, crews work from outside the building to contain and extinguish the fire while protecting nearby structures and vegetation.
Despite the intensity of the fire, crews prevented it from spreading into the surrounding wildland, with the exception of one small spot fire that was quickly contained.
No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Kellogg Rural Fire District would like to thank the dedicated firefighters Oakland Rural Fire Protection District and Sutherlin Fire Department, and Douglas Forest Protective Association for their prompt, professional response and assistance.
