LIVES NOT FOR SALE! Stop the privatization at the Port of Oakland!
• • •
The billionaire John Fisher, who owns the Oakland A's Stadium, the Gap, and two charter school chains, plans to build a massive stadium and thousands of luxury housing units on top of the Port of Oakland — compromising living wage union jobs at the port, in order to build expensive homes most of us could not afford to live in.
• • •
If the proposed stadium and luxury housing is built at the Port of Oakland, the price of everything around them will increase. At accelerated rates, West Oakland residents will be forced out of their homes to make way for people who can afford to pay more for housing. The ultra-rich Fisher family will become even wealthier at our expense.
• • •
These billionaires and their allies have been spreading lies in our community, saying that we will “benefit” from a playground for the wealthy in West Oakland. It is up to us to combat these lies and spread the truth so we can come together, fight back and win.
• • •
We are in solidarity with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union workers and all people fighting in this struggle. Together, we can stop gentrification and privatization in our community!

The criminality of the capitalist state and system exposes itself once again when we consider how convoluted, complicated, and inaccessible the process of acquiring state benefits is for tens of millions of people in this country who are struggling with mass unemployment resulting from the U.S. government’s dismissal of our wellbeing during this pandemic and consequent economic depression.

We fight in the struggle for good paying jobs, housing, health care and education for all! While we fight for immediately realizable reforms to provide relief for workers, we also fight for a society where the working class owns the fruits of their own labor for the benefit of all instead of a tiny minority of bosses, bankers and landlords.
• • •

Last Monday, we held a Labor Day rally and speak-out on the front steps of the Alameda County Social Services Building in Oakland to demand FOOD AND HOUSING, NOT COPS!
• • •
BAUC understands that truly revolutionary change must happen from the bottom-up: through working class struggle. With this action, we focused on reclaiming the radical legacy of Labor Day, as it truly began as a workers’ celebration of concessions won through organized struggle — like the 8 hour work day, minimum wage requirements, unemployment benefits, and so much more.
• • •
As a united organization of unemployed, underemployed, and employed workers, we can:
1. Push for a return to $600/week unemployment benefits
2. Pressure employers into guaranteeing PPE, hazard pay, and paid time off for all essential workers.
3. End police terror and the police system that exists to stop the masses of oppressed and exploited people from reclaiming all that has been taken from us.
• • •
