This supports emerging leaders in California who are formerly incarcerated or otherwise impacted by the justice system.

The Youth Advocate Program (YAP) is hiring Youth Advocate Fellows who are passionate about bringing positive changes to the Alameda County foster care system! YAP is a three-year, 40-hour per week (Monday-Friday) job that combines professional development opportunities and work experience with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS).

Youth Advocate Fellows (YAFs) are current and former foster and probation youth (ages 18-22) involved with Alameda County’s Child Welfare or Juvenile Justice Systems. YAFs’ work involves trainings for Child Welfare Workers, policy feedback on committees, outreach projects, participation in Independent Living Program (ILP) events, Team Decision Making meetings and Case Planning 14+ Child and Family Team meetings. YAFs also receive professional development training, supervision and coaching, and an opportunity to work on education and employment related goals.

In order to apply for the position, you must attend a mandatory YAP information session to learn more about the job. For more details about the information sessions and eligibility requirements, check out the flyer.

The starting pay rate is $14.93/hour and includes health insurance benefits, paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays.

Determination Black Men's Group 2017-2018
The DetermiNation Black Men's Group is recruiting young Black men ages 16-24 to join our next year-long cohort, launching Wednesday July 5th with an open house and BBQ for new members. DetermiNation is a brotherhood and healing circle for transitioning-aged African American young men who are formerly-incarcerated or who have been near or involved in the ‘street life.’ The group meets weekly on Wednesday evenings from 6-9pm. Members are given a small stipend for attending each session.

MENTORSHIP & CULTURAL ACTIVITIES: Receive mentorship and coaching to pursue individual life-goals (such as employment, career, or educational goals, wellness goals, housing goals, etc.). We have discussions, workshops, and special guest presentations on topics like mass incarceration, street intellectualism, African traditions and culture, healing, non-violent communication, personal finances and much more.

MEDIA PRODUCTION TRAINING: Learn about media production to further develop skills for creating short films (multimedia journalism), music, posters, online graphics, websites, etc. Receive training and support with producing and distributing media produced as part of this training, and receive small stipends for travel and food when participating in media production trainings/events outside of weekly sessions, as well as paid contracts for completing major media projects.

SOCIAL JUSTICE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE: Participate in leadership training and get involved in local and statewide social justice campaigns. Meet bi-monthly with a group of youth leaders to plan and organize events, and receive stipends (travel & food per diem), as well as paid contracts for organizing events.

Lenore McDonald Scholarship Fund
We are looking for eligible students between the ages of 18 to 21 years old that plan to transfer to a four-year college. The Lenore McDonald Scholarship is unique because it provides both financial ($750 per semester) and personal support for these students, throughout their entire community college experience.
We have recently updated our qualifications for the 2016-2017 school year. We are no longer open exclusively to Oakland Public school graduates. Students, who do not already have another scholarship, and meets the listed Qualifications, should apply.
We are particularly interested in students that would benefit from additional support and guidance. Because we are small we are able to give individualized support. Therefore, we have had an excellent track record of our students achieving their goals. Currently, there are three scholarships available.
Qualifications:
• Applicant must plan to transfer to a four-year college
• Applicant must be a first or second year Peralta college student (18 to 21 years old)
• Applicant must be African-American or Latino
• Applicant must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Applicant must complete the FAFSA and receive a CCC Bog fee waiver
• Applicant must submit an essay

RTTC is training for Medical Assistant/Administrative Assistant, Field Service Security &Alarms Technician and Biotechnology Technicians
The Regional Training Center is a Non- Profit Workforce Development Agency that prepares clients with the necessary skills to gain employment. We work in collaboration with the Peralta Community College District, Bay Area Business Roundtable as well as Alameda County Health Pipeline Partnership to provide our clients with essential training and resources to be successful.

The Medical Assistant/Administrative, Field Service Security & Alarms Technicians and Biotechnology programs is designed to provide students with the knowledge and competency in the Medical Assisting, Field Service Security & Alarms Technicians and Biotechnology field and gain Entry Level Employment once training is complete. Upon completion you will receive college credits and a California State Approved Certificate. The August Session for the Medical Assistant, Field Service Security & Alarms Technicians, Biotechnology Technicians Program last about 3-4 month beginning August and ending in December. In addition to completion of the program we work with you to seek employment with one of our industry collaborators. Training will take place at both RTTC and the Merritt College campus for the clients interested in the Medical Assistant Program. The Field Service Security & Alarms Technicians and Biotechnology Technicians will take place at both RTTC and Laney College.

Funding for the program is at a no cost to our clients; however our clients are required to fulfill all necessary documents to get funding from our sponsors and grants available. I have attached the program checklist of the required documents we will need to begin enrollment. We would like for you to bring all documents to the orientation with you. If you do not have all documents available at the scheduled time of your appointment, please note you will have to bring them at a later time. Please expect to be here for 1 ½ - 2 hours.
