Food is health. Food helps ensure housing. And right now, people without dependents are at risk of losing CalFresh - one of the most important resources in helping keep our communities fed during these challenging times.

The Alameda County Food Sovereignty Roundtable has been working closely with community-based organizations around our county to come together and show that we are not going to let CalFresh work requirements push our people off of these much-needed benefits.

🫂 Let’s help each other meet any exemptions or fulfill this new policy in order to keep our people on CalFresh in the short term. In the long term, we will fight to reverse these federally-imposed requirements.

As ICE operations spread fear and danger in the Twin Cities, Minnesotans show the power of kindness, courage and community-wide actions as they unite with immigrant neighbors. Their stories provide inspiration and guidance for communities everywhere.

Not In Our Town (NIOT) is honored to share some of the stories emerging from Minnesota. This Bay Area event precedes screenings in communities across the country during United Against Hate Week. Hear from Bay Area leaders and the NIOT team about how you can spread the lessons from Minnesota.

It was the overwhelming love in the face of cruelty and violence that convinced Not In Our Town to document response to the Minnesota ICE Surge in early 2026. Today the threat remains, yet the effectiveness of the strategies emerging from the Twin Cities are clear. For us, it is vital that Americans across the country see the stories of ordinary people who banded together as their neighbors, their town, and their country faced a dire threat.

People from every walk of life, ethnic background and religion have found common cause with each other. We witnessed the beauty and strength of unity displayed by residents who repeatedly stepped into harsh winter streets at all hours to be there for others. Our portraits include immigrants bravely speaking up, clergy, teachers, local officials, doctors, restauranteurs, unions, business owners, multi-generational families and many others who overcame their own fears to stand up–for their neighbors and for our freedoms as Americans.

The courage and compassion of people in Minnesota provide a model for the country and the world for how local communities can band together to protect and support each other.

I am one of several people who have been requested to appear as a witness in the federal trial of former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao and others, and I am fully cooperating with investigators. As public servants, it is our responsibility to earn the trust of the people we represent — and I continue to take that responsibility seriously. The conduct described in this case has no place in our government. I am focused on doing my part to cooperate honestly, transparently and completely, and on working to restore the confidence Oaklanders deserve from their leaders. Due to the ongoing investigation, I am unable to comment or respond to questions outside of official proceedings.
