Glenview Elementary Community

Dearest Glenview community:

It has been our honor to provide content, tell stories, pass along information, get a little bossy, and showcase the special magic of our community over the last 10 years.

But as it often goes, all good things must come to an end. Or as David Bowie likes to remind us, Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes (Turn and face the strange), the strange in this case being that this account is going to come to a close.

We are, of course, delighted that Glenview’s administration will continue to tell the stories of our community. So if you’re not already, be sure to follow .elementary and .tako, who’ll keep the social media torch lit!

More than anything, though, the pleasure was all ours.

Another awesome, rad, fabulous, super spooky oceanic Glenview fall carnival & haunted house in the books!

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time or stayed home with kids so someone else could come volunteer, loaned their tables and tents, shared their artistry in decorating the school and the Haunted House, donated cookies, staffed a booth, and more – this event is truly a community effort, and we can’t thank you enough for showing up to make it possible!

This event is truly an awesome, annual gift to our whole community.

Glenview is a sanctuary school in a sanctuary city. This has not changed.

We do not allow immigration enforcement onto a school campus unless the agency has a warrant signed by a judge that has been reviewed by the OUSD legal team.

Staff are prohibited from sharing any information about any student’s or family’s immigration status.

We urge you to review OUSD’s ICE Protocol document for families and the community.

Glenview community, meet our speech therapist, Ms. Brittany!

This is Ms. Brittany's 4th year at Glenview and 9th year as a therapist. She does what she does because she feels like every student should be heard and has a voice. It’s important that everyone be able to communicate even if it’s not thru typical means.

As she recently said, "The kids are awesome. I really love this job and don’t know what else I’d do if I wasn’t a speech therapist. I'm grateful to be part of this school or community."

Well, YOU'RE awesome, Ms. Brittany!

When she's not at school, you can probably find her eating tacos, dreaming of a visit to New Orleans, or rereading her favorite book from childhood, Night of the Living Dummy (from the Goosebumps series).

We're so glad you're YOU, Ms. Brittany. Show her some love today!

Steph Curry just hit a legendary 3-point milestone to remind us that we have JUST 3 DAYS LEFT to hit our big read-a-thon goal.

If he can sink 4,000 3-pointers, we can raise funds for our school too!

Glenview community, meet Ms. Castano!

Ms. Castano is one of our beloved 4th grade teachers and is in her 3rd year of teaching at Glenview.

Her favorite color is forest green, and if you make her choose a favorite food, it’s a toss-up between spaghetti or pupusas.

She loves reading I Want My Hat back to her class, and enjoys cozying up to a mystery book when she’s not at school.

If you want to make her happy, take her to the California coast — the Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of her favorite places on earth, as is Half Moon Bay.

We’re so glad you call Glenview home, Ms. Castano!

Glenview community, meet Ms. Brenda, one of our 4th grade teachers!

Ms. Brenda is in her third year of teaching at Glenview, but actually started at Glenview with ASP in 2018. Prior to that, she worked at Willard Middle School in Berkeley.

Enough of the logistics, though. Her favorite colors are blue, gold, and black, her favorite animal is the bear, and her favorite book to read to her class is the old classic, Peter Pan!

She loves visiting El Salvador, where her mom’s family lives, and if she could just eat one meal for the rest of her life, PUPUSAS are where it’s at.

She adds a hearty HOLA to all of you, so give her an HOLA back in comments!
