This past weekend, our CHP Oakland Explorer Post 370 proudly represented at the 2026 State Capital Explorer Challenge. Through their hard work, dedication, and countless hours of training, these Explorers rose to the occasion and earned an impressive 2nd place finish in the DUI scenario.
Their commitment and determination truly paid off, and this experience has only fueled their drive to keep improving. With a better understanding of the competition and what it takes to succeed, they’re more motivated than ever and excited for what lies ahead.
The future is bright for these Explorers—this is just the beginning.

DUI checkpoint leads to an arrest Friday night.
On April 24, 2026 at 11:37 p.m., CHP Oakland conducted a driver license and DUI checkpoint on Telegraph Avenue. During the operation, a 17-year-old driver entered the checkpoint. The driver had no identification, registration, or insurance.
After he was directed to park the vehicle pending further investigation, officers discovered the driver was unlicensed and providing false information.
The driver was arrested and the vehicle was subsequently towed. While officers were conducting a vehicle inventory, they located an unregistered firearm along with illegal drugs.
The mission of the California Highway Patrol is to provide the highest level of Safety, Service, and Security.

SOBRIETY AND DRIVER'S LICENSE CHECKPOINT
Oakland, CA - The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Oakland Area will be conducting a sobriety and driver license checkpoint on April 24, 2026, within Alameda County. The sobriety and driver license location will be held at the 5400 block of Telegraph Avenue, in the city of Oakland.
The goal of the CHP is to ensure the safe passage of each and every motorist by targeting roads where there is high frequency of intoxicated or unlicensed drivers. A sobriety and driver license checkpoint is a proven effective tool for achieving this goal and is designed to augment existing patrol operations.
Funding for this sobriety checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Safety Administration.

Upcoming Freeway Closure ⚠️
While the Bay Bridge will remain open during this weekend's closures on Eastbound I-80 in San Francisco, there will be a full closure on I-80 from 17th Street to 4th Street, which will be in effect from Friday, April 17, at 11:00 p.m. to Monday, April 20, at 6:00 a.m.
Both the northbound US-101 Bayshore connector and southbound US-101 Central connector ramps to I-80 eastbound will be closed. Motorists are encouraged to use public transportation or alternate routes. The California Highway Patrol and Caltrans will be on site throughout the closure.
