Thank you to the 100+ people who made our Inside/Outside Convening on Reproductive Justice and Abolition possible. We are especially grateful for our inside planning committee — incredible incarcerated organizers who spent months envisioning and coordinating this historic event.
Shoutout to UnapologeticallyHERS for co-organizing with us. We provided our Know Your Reproductive Rights pamphlets to all incarcerated attendees and Haymarket contributed an incredible array of free books!
Day one of two was held inside the California Institution for Women. Attendees led and participated in twelve workshops including Parenting from the Inside, Pregnancy & Labor, Abortion, Menopause & Hormones, Family Policing & Surveillance, and Autonomy During Medical Treatment. Kwaneta Harris was our keynote speaker via a recording from a Texas prison.
Incarcerated women and trans/gender-expansive people were able to collaborate directly with outside organizers, their formerly incarcerated peers, doulas, doctors, and authors to sharpen our collective analysis and create a plan of action to tackle reproductive injustice with a longer-term goal of abolition.
Another world is possible and we are determined to build it with people inside women’s prisons leading the charge.
