What a fantastic day for a field trip. We had a great time welcoming Twin Valley Headstart to the station today.

The kids had a great time learning about what firefighters do, how their gear protects them in a fire and even got to spray some water.

We are so thankful for our community and glad you chose to visit with us during Fire Prevention Week.

This weekend, Whitewood Volunteer Fire Department hosted a VAFR Vehicle Extrication class. This two day course consists of classroom time and hands on learning in basic vehicle extrication techniques, including stabilization, door removal, roof removal and dash rolls. Instructors from Oakwood conducted the class and members from Cleveland Rescue, Whitewood Fire, and even Blacksburg Rescue were in attendance.

Special thanks to LJ Recycling for providing vehicles and allowing us to utilize their lot for this training experience.

Oakwood Fire and Rescue recently underwent its bi-annual EMS Agency inspection through the Virginia Office of EMS. This inspection focuses on adequately stocked vehicles per state guidelines as well as a Quality Assurance program and applicable polices as required by the Office of EMS. We are please to announce that all four of our transport units and our one quick response vehicle (QRV) received a two-year permit and our agency was granted a two-year license.

Many thanks to our providers who dedicate so much to keep us running smoothly and efficiently!

We want to give a shout out to Lawrence Jarvis for smoking some pork today for our volunteers to eat for lunch while we worked and cleaned up around one of our stations. It was delicious, so thank you Mr. Jarvis.
