Swap “You’re so smart” for “You stuck with that.” 🧠

Praising effort over outcome builds the resilience your teen needs for the classes that don’t come easy.

⚖️ Why No Personal Devices? Reason #4

When every student uses the same school-provided technology, teachers can give clear, consistent instructions without troubleshooting different brands, operating systems, or software.

It also removes any chance that differences in personal devices could become a distraction, or create an advantage or disadvantage among students. Every Ocali student starts from the same place. 💙

Questions about our 1:1 technology model? Reach out to your school office.

🔒 Why No Personal Devices? Reason #3

School-issued devices are managed within our school's technology environment — which means we can apply appropriate security measures, monitor network activity, manage access to educational resources, and respond quickly to any technology-related concerns.

Personal devices simply can't be monitored or managed the same way. Using school-issued technology helps us keep our learning environment safe for every student.

Your child didn’t make the team. Or the application came back with a “no.” Or the part they wanted went to someone else. Before you reach for the silver lining, try this: normalize the rejection. 💙

Share a time something didn’t work out for you. A job you didn’t get, a team you didn’t make, an application that was turned down. Tell them how it felt, what you did next, and where you ended up.

When kids hear that the adults they look up to have been told “not this time” too, a setback stops feeling like the end of the story. It starts to feel survivable.

You don’t need a perfect lesson or a happy ending. Just your honest story and a reminder that one “no” doesn’t define who they are. 🌱

What’s a “no” that turned out to be a turning point for you? Share it in the comments. 👇

Today is World Mental Health Day. 💚

At Ocali, we want every student to feel like they belong, and that starts with feeling seen, heard, and supported. Being a kid (or a parent of one) isn't always easy, and it's okay to have hard days.

A few small things that can make a big difference:

💬 Ask your child how they're really doing, and listen without rushing to fix it
🌿 Make space for rest, movement, and time outside
🤝 Remind them that asking for help is a sign of strength

To our students: you matter, and you are never alone here. To our families and staff: thank you for caring for each other. 💙

How does your family check in with each other? Share an idea in the comments. 👇
