Town of Ocean City Social Media Comment Policy
Purposes. The Town’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Flickr, Nextdoor, and
other similar platforms promote and disseminate information about the Town’s initiatives, events and announcements. These platforms are limited public forums for discussion with and among users about the posted initiatives, events and announcements. The Town values the opinions shared by its constituents through all of the Town’s social media platforms and reviews messages, retweets, and other user communications (“Comments”) on all of the Town’s social media platforms. Constructive discussions and Comments are encouraged. The Town does not discriminate based on viewpoint but may remove Comments and restrict access to users for violating this Policy. Comments posted will be monitored regularly but not 24/7. To facilitate the purposes of the social media platforms, Comments may be removed if they contain, constitute, or link to:
• Comments that are clearly off topic and not related to the post for which they are made or are clearly unrelated to governmental concerns;
• Disruptively repetitive content;
• Profane, obscene, violent, or sexual content;
• Defamatory or personal attacks, or content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, gender identity marital status, status with regard to public assistance, ethnicity, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation;
• Advertisements, promotions or solicitations of a commercial product or promotion of particular services;
• Conduct or encouragement of illegal activity, or content that violates a legal ownership of any other party or infringes on copyrights or trademarks in violation of Federal, State, County or Town law;
• Malicious or harmful software;
• “Spam”;
• Confidential, private or personally identifying information (PII) of any individual as defined by State law;
• Information that may compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems; and
• Threats of violence or threats to public safety. Users that make express or implied threats of violence or threats to public safety may be reported to the Town of Ocean City Police Department for investigation. The following rules apply to the Town social media platforms:
• Any content removed pursuant to this Comment Policy will be retained for one year.
• Users may be temporarily or permanently restricted from accessing the social media platform if they repeatedly and consistently violate this Comment Policy.
• To contest the restriction of access to a social media platform, the user must submit to the Communications & Marketing Director at [email protected], a written statement providing grounds for reinstatement. Requests shall be responded to on a reasonably timely basis, and access shall be restored if it is determined that the grounds for reinstatement are sufficient. A statement that the user will abide by this Comment Policy in the future shall be sufficient, except when a user has continued to violate the Comment Policy after having made such a statement.
• Users may contact the Communications & Marketing Director at [email protected] at any time to identify Comments or other conduct in violation of the Policy. Until a Comment in violation of the Policy is removed, users should ignore it or, if responding, do so in compliance with the Policy.
• The Town of Ocean City shall notify the public of any changes to this Policy and identify the changes. User-generated content. The Town monitors the social media platforms but is not responsible for content generated by users on these platforms. A Comment is the opinion of the commentator only. Publication of a Comment does not necessarily imply endorsement of, or agreement by the Town. 🏃♀️🔥 Tomorrow is the day! 🔥🏃♂️The annual Law Enforcement Torch Run® is here! This incredible event brings law enforcement officers and athletes together to champion acceptance, inclusion, and opportunity for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The Ocean City Police Department is proud to work alongside our athletes throughout the year, and tomorrow we will continue that tradition by supporting Special Olympics Maryland

🕗 Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.
🏃 Run starts at 8:30 a.m.
Participants will run from 21st Street to North Division Street along the Boardwalk before boarding buses to visit schools throughout Worcester County.

𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 – 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐲
At approximately 2:15 p.m., emergency responders were notified of a small aircraft incident in Assawoman Bay behind Seacrets.
The aircraft, identified as a SeaRey, a two-seat, single-engine amphibious flying boat, landed on the water when what appeared to be one of its stabilizing floats (sponsons) became detached.
The aircraft remained somewhat afloat, and no injuries were reported.
The incident is being handled by the Maryland Natural Resources Police and the U.S. Coast Guard. Additional details will be released as they become available and are pertinent.

🚭 PUBLIC SMOKING & CANNABIS USE ARE RESTRICTED IN OCEAN CITY 🚭
Thinking about bringing your own w**d (B.Y.O.W.) to the beach? Think again.
Under Maryland law and the Town of Ocean City ordinances, cannabis cannot be smoked or consumed in public.
Smoking or va**ng to***co or ni****ne products is prohibited:
❌ In public parks
❌ On beaches and the Boardwalk outside designated smoking areas
❌ On sidewalks and public spaces
❌ In or within 15 feet of bus shelters
Remember:
⚠️ Public consumption of cannabis is prohibited, this includes in a motor vehicle.
⚠️ Cannabis remains illegal on federal property.
⚠️ Violations of Ocean City smoking and va**ng ordinances may result in fines up to $500.
These laws are in place to protect residents and visitors from involuntary exposure to to***co, ni****ne, and cannabis smoke and v***r.
Know the rules before you visit. Respect the community. Help keep Ocean City safe and enjoyable for everyone.

TRAVEL ADVISORY: The Baltimore Ravens Roost Parade will take place today, Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Beginning at approximately 8 a.m., the Department of Public Works will establish temporary traffic patterns along the parade route. The parade will utilize the southbound lanes of Baltimore Avenue from 15th Street to 29th Street. Staging areas will be located on Baltimore Avenue between 15th and 19th Streets, as well as the 100 blocks of 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th Streets.
Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes when possible. Heavy pedestrian traffic is also expected on Baltimore Avenue.

The Ocean City Police Department is committed to keeping our community safe, family-friendly, and enjoyable for everyone who lives, works, and vacations here.
With large gatherings and “takeover” style events becoming more common nationwide, we want to make one thing clear: Disorderly, dangerous, and unlawful behavior will not be tolerated in Ocean City.
Many municipal ordinance violations are subject to fines UP TO $5,000 and/or arrest.
Before you visit:

Our officers will continue proactive enforcement throughout the summer season to protect residents, visitors, businesses, and public spaces.

And that’s a wrap! Thank you to our star students for being excellent bus riders, and to the Worcester County Public Schools for partnering with us on this important project. Keeping our kids and roadways safe remains a top priority in the Town of Ocean City.
We’d also like to thank all the patient drivers who traveled through the 139th Street area during today’s photo shoot. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated!

The Ocean City Police Department will be participating in a photo shoot with the Worcester County Public Schools MD, as part of a school bus safety research project conducted in partnership with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA ).
Today, Friday, May 29, 2026, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., officers will be staging mock traffic stops involving a school bus in the following areas:
• 139th Street
• S. Ocean Drive
• 94th Street area
Residents and visitors may experience minor traffic disruptions in these areas while crews set up and capture photos.
This is only a staged photo shoot and research-related activity. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we assist with this important school bus safety initiative.
