🔥 QUARRY ROAD FIRE – SMOKE ADVISORY
The Town is aware of the heavy smoke currently affecting our area related to the recent Quarry Road Fire.

At this time, crews are actively monitoring conditions. Residents may continue to see and smell smoke throughout the area as conditions change.

We understand the concern this may cause and want to assure our community that the situation is being monitored. We will provide additional updates if conditions change or further information becomes available.

Please use caution while traveling through areas where smoke may reduce visibility.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We are incredibly grateful to the state, county, and municipal first responders, as well as our dedicated volunteer firefighters and emergency personnel, who work together at a moment’s notice to respond to unpredictable emergencies like this. On Friday, September 18, 2026, the Calabash Elks Lodge held a special First Responders Ceremony honoring those who have gone above and beyond their normal day-to-day duties and have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their profession throughout the year.
We are proud to share that First Sergeant Angie King was honored as our agency’s Officer of the Year. 👏🏼💙
This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects not only Officer King’s commitment to her profession, but also the compassion and humanity she shows to the people she serves.
During the past year, Officer King responded to a call involving a citizen whose family needed support during an incredibly difficult time. The family shared these heartfelt words about Officer King and the impact she made:
“Our mother recently passed away, and Officer King was there with our father when it happened. In the midst of an overwhelming and heartbreaking loss, she provided far more than professional assistance, she offered comfort, kindness, and genuine human compassion.
Although her official responsibilities had been fulfilled, Officer King chose to remain with our father because she knew he should not be alone. She stayed by his side, offering support and reassurance until family members were able to arrive.”
These are the moments that remind us that being a first responder is about so much more than answering calls. It is about being there for people on some of the hardest days of their lives.
Congratulations, First Sergeant King, on this well deserved recognition. 👮🏻‍♀️💙
