🌊🐟⚙️ Not one, but TWO guest speakers from the University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Ocean Science and Engineering visited our OSHS CTE students!

⚙️ Engineering 2 students welcomed Dr. Robert Leaf, who shared information about USM’s ocean engineering and ocean mapping programs, scholarship opportunities, and the variety of careers available in these fields.

🐟 Aquaculture 2 students heard from Mr. Uchechukwu Ohajiudu, a Ph.D. student at USM, who discussed the importance of aquaculture to our planet, career opportunities in the industry, and his research on Southern Flounder.

A big THANK YOU to both speakers for taking the time to share their knowledge and give our students a closer look at real-world careers and opportunities right here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast!

💙💛 We appreciate our partnership with Southern Miss!

🔨 Building Skills & Building for Our CTE Community!

Our Construction Trades Year 1 and Year 2 students are off to a great start this year!

Inside the classroom, students are working toward earning NCCER National Certifications, developing the technical knowledge and industry-recognized skills that can help prepare them for careers in the construction industry.

Outside the classroom, they’re putting those skills to work! Construction Trades has teamed up with our Aquaculture program to build a chicken coop for the chickens that are part of Aquaculture’s agriculture component. 🐓🏠

We love seeing our CTE programs collaborate while giving students the opportunity to learn through real, hands-on projects!

Stay tuned—we can’t wait to show you the finished coop! 🔨🪚

Today was an exciting day for our Aquaculture 1 students! They received their striped bass and put their plants in their boxes. We are excited to watch both the fish and plants grow throughout the school year! Stay tuned for updates! 🎣 🪴

A big shout-out to our industry partners, the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the Lyman Fish Hatchery, for the essential role they play in our OSHS Aquaculture program. We appreciate their continued support of our students and program!

🐾 That’s a Wrap on Homecoming Week! 💙

What a week for OSHS CTE! We were so busy having fun yesterday that we missed our post, but Grillin’ & Chillin’ was a success, and our teachers and students showed their spirit in their favorite jerseys! 🏈🏀⚾

Today, everyone finished the week strong by representing their class colors, and CTE was well represented at the pep rally! Two of our very own made it all the way to the Musical Chairs finals representing the senior class — and Coach Davis brought home the TROPHY! 🏆😂

We still love you, Mrs. Engle! ❤️

It’s been a great week of school spirit, fun, and making memories with our CTE family. Go Greyhounds! 🐾💙
