After Thursday night's meeting, we received 4 calls almost back to back. Three of these calls (all emergent) were on the opposite end of the county from the one shown. One of the calls was a wreck which needed our full time fireman, as well. At this point, both ambulances, our fire chief and our fireman are all far away from this call. Somebody fell from a deer stand. Even though Ben Hill EMS was also slammed, they were coming off another call in that area and went to his location. They called for a chopper en route. Among all the chaos of both fire and EMS in 2 adjoining counties, we came together for this patient. Within a few minutes, he had EMS on scene and the chopper was minutes away. Ben Hill and Irwin Fire that were available and in this area set up an LZ with a moment's notice and the pt was given the care that he needed as quickly as humanly possible.
It's always about the patient. I ran into a few other volunteers Friday and several messaged me asking if I had heard how this pt was doing. I hadn't heard but I promise you that the call isn't over just because we're 10-8, that the report is done, or that we're at home with our families. We always want to know that we were able to make a difference. We hope that in the same way that we remember patients, they remember us as well. 🖤❤️🖤
