Happy National Boss’s Day, to Chief Ogburn

Being a police chief means making tough decisions, leading by example, and keeping a lot of parts moving in the right direction.

Today, we’re recognizing Chief Ogburn for his leadership, his commitment to our officers, and his dedication to the Ocoee community.

Thanks for everything you do, Chief.

Recently, Ocoee officers were called to assist an elderly woman who was confused and unsure where she was or how to get home. We soon learned she had driven to Ocoee from Largo, Florida, and her family was actively looking for her.

Our officers contacted the Largo Police Department and her daughter, who had just reported her missing and requested a Silver Alert.

Her daughter made the trip to Ocoee, and thankfully, mother and daughter were safely reunited.

We’re grateful our officers were in the right place at the right time to help get this woman safely home with her family.

🚨 SCAM ALERT🚨

A woman recently called Ocoee PD while she was at her bank after receiving a call telling her she had a warrant and needed to withdraw cash and take it to a “self-bonding terminal.”(THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A “SELF-BONDING TERMINAL.”)

That “terminal” was actually a Bitcoin ATM inside a gas station.

Our officers spoke with the scammer on the phone before he eventually hung up.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Law enforcement will NEVER call you and tell you to withdraw money from your bank.
• We will NEVER ask you to pay anything using Bitcoin, gift cards, Venmo, Cash App, or other forms of payment like this.
• If you receive a call like this, hang up and call the law enforcement agency directly using a verified phone number.
• You can always call Ocoee PD to confirm whether you are actually in trouble.

Don’t let a scammer scare you into making a quick decision.

Stay safe out there.

All month long, our officers are wearing pink undershirts and pink badges in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We're standing with the patients, survivors, families, and loved ones in our community who have been touched by this disease.

About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, and men can be diagnosed too. Early detection saves lives. Talk with your doctor about when to begin mammograms and how often to be screened.
