Tribal and urban Indian organization leaders are invited to join IHS for an informational listening session on October 20 during the National Congress of American Indians 83rd Annual Convention and Marketplace in Palm Springs, California.

IHS will provide an overview of the Health Care Facilities Construction Priority System, review the remaining projects on the IHS Facilities Construction Priority List and their status, and explain how Congress funds health care facilities construction. The session will also provide an opportunity for Tribal and urban Indian organization leaders to share perspectives and discuss strategies for advancing and completing the remaining projects.

Su***de prevention begins with recognizing both the challenges people may face and the strengths that can help them navigate through hard times.

A new Toolkit for Crisis Centers Serving American Indian and Alaska Native Communities was recently developed with input from frontline specialists, Tribal liaisons, and community leaders to help build effective and sustainable programs. It includes three modules covering foundation knowledge, partnership with Tribes, and culturally responsive approaches for crisis center counselors.

IHS has awarded $3.5 million to 14 Tribal and urban Indian communities through the Produce Prescription Pilot Program (P4) to help establish and implement community-driven produce prescription programs across Indian Country. This advances P4 into Phase 2, expanding access to healthy foods and strengthening connections among health care, nutrition, and local food systems.

This investment advances the Trump Administration’s Make America Healthy Again Strategy by addressing nutrition as a foundation of health, strengthening preventive care, and supporting community-driven approaches to reducing chronic disease. Phase 2 builds on the foundational work completed during the original P4, which was established in 2023 to help reduce food insecurity and improve health care outcomes among American Indians and Alaska Natives by increasing access to produce and other traditional foods.
