WEATHER ALERT | OKEECHOBEE COUNTY

The National Weather Service in Melbourne is advising of the potential for heavy rainfall and gusty winds across our area.

HEAVY RAINFALL & FLOODING CONCERNS

Okeechobee County is under a Marginal Risk (10% chance) of receiving more than 3 inches of rainfall associated with thunderstorms.
Heavy downpours could lead to localized flooding, particularly in low-lying
and poor-drainage areas.

GUSTY WINDS EXPECTED
A developing low-pressure system off the Eastern Seaboard is expected to bring windy conditions into early next week.

BOATING SAFETY
Boaters and those planning activities on Lake Okeechobee should monitor changing weather conditions and the latest marine forecasts. Gusty winds may create hazardous conditions on the water.

STAY WEATHER AWARE
* Monitor updates from the National Weather Service.
* Never drive through flooded roadways.
* Secure loose outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.
* Report flooding in your area to help local agencies identify and document impacts.
* Continue to monitor Okeechobee County Emergency Management
* Sign up for Alert Okeechobee for information before, during, and after a storm at www.Okeechobeecountyfl.gov/alert

Okeechobee County Emergency Management Director Karen Kozac was deployed to Escambia County to support response efforts for Hurricane Isaias.

When disasters strike, partnerships across county lines make a difference. By supporting our neighbors, Okeechobee County also gains valuable experience that helps strengthen our own disaster planning, response and recovery efforts.

Working alongside other emergency management teams strengthens relationships and keeps Okeechobee connected to the state and federal partners, expertise and resources that may be needed when disaster affects our community.

These partnerships help us better understand how to coordinate assistance, request resources and put lessons learned into action here at home.

We thank Director Kozac for her service and commitment to helping fellow Floridians while building a stronger, more prepared Okeechobee County.

To everyone affected by Hurricane Isaias, especially those facing damage, displacement and uncertainty: Okeechobee County stands with you and the first responders working to keep you safe as your communities begin to recover.
