HB1038 died on Representative Kevin West’s desk killing all hope once again for much needed change for another year. It’s shameful that lawmakers would stand in the way of putting an end to state employees directing disabled Oklahomans and their caregivers to the floor in restrooms in buildings you and I fund.

Oklahomans should never be half naked in parking lots due to lack of restroom access.

It’s shameful. Disgraceful. Disturbing.

When educating lawmakers isn’t enough. When emails, letters, postcards, toy cars, cookies, and personal visits to their office isn’t enough. Nothing is enough. Ableism is ugly!

Positive advocacy efforts are exhausted. It’s been FIVE years! There’s buildings in Oklahoma that need access to all.

We’re going to chat about it.

I'm excited to announce that the Oklahoma City Building Code Commission has wrapped up its review of the 2018 changes. Attorneys with Oklahoma City are currently reviewing all changes and the Oklahoma City Council will soon be voting on a better built Oklahoma City.

Our Oklahoma State Capitol, all state-owned Visitor Centers, the Oklahoma Children's Hospital OU Health, Oklahoma History Center, Jd McCarty Center for Children With Developmental Disabilities, the First Americans Museum either have tables or will soon. It's been a lot of work placed on my shoulders for the legislature's failure to act.

Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Crazy Horse Memorial soon will too. I believe my member of Congress will soon be looking into what reasonable accommodations might look like for his office building. I don't think he liked the idea of Max having no other option but the floor in his office building for his restroom needs.

I hope you'll take a moment and ask yourself why SOKC lawmakers, including Representative Mickey Dollens of HD93, original author of Max's Law, refuse to let the bill move forward.

It will cost Oklahomans more to retrofit our buildings. Why would any Oklahoma lawmaker be opposed to a $2,400 changing table in our new and newly renovated buildings that provide restroom access for all. It's a question I hope you'll help answer.

Politicians who play games with the health and safety of our most vulnerable population have lost sight of their duty to all Oklahomans.
