"The decision to seek the death penalty is among the most serious responsibilities entrusted to a prosecutor. It is not a decision that is made lightly, hastily, or without careful consideration. After a thorough review of the facts, the law, and the aggravating circumstances alleged in this case, our office has determined that seeking the death penalty is appropriate. While no court proceeding can restore what was taken from Ina and her family, we have an obligation to pursue justice in a manner that reflects the seriousness of the crime alleged and is consistent with Oklahoma law.”

Today is Juneteenth, a federal holiday observed on June 19.

The holiday commemorates the day in 1865 when General Order No. 3 was issued in Galveston, Texas, informing the last enslaved African Americans in Texas that they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

The document pictured here serves as a historic reminder of that moment and its lasting significance in our nation's history.

Our office joins the community in recognizing this important day in our nation's history.

Sextortion often happens quickly, leaving young people feeling trapped, ashamed, and afraid to ask for help. If a child becomes a victim, it is important for them to know they are not alone and that trusted adults and law enforcement can help.

We're sharing these important tips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as part of . Take a few minutes to review these resources and talk with the young people in your life about staying safe online.
