A jury convicted an Oklahoma City man of murder after a drunk wrong-way crash killed a pregnant woman. Life sentences were recommended.

Marissa Murrow was a victim of a wrong-way driver in October 2020. Since her death, there have been 113 more wrong-way driver victims killed in Oklahoma. VOID consists of the families and friends of approximately 300 impaired driving victims including nearly 75 victims of wrong-way driving crashes. We are undertaking this initiative in their honor. If you know someone who has been killed by a wrong-way driver, please leave their name in the comments.

Jeff and Kristy Murrow are working with other families who have lost loved ones to impaired driving to prevent another tragedy.

The Murrows believe the next step should focus on motorists who are driving in the correct direction and may be approaching an oncoming vehicle.

This is where we rank in Oklahoma. This article states that fatal and serious crashes caused $26.4 billion in economic and quality-of-life costs in Oklahoma last year. Two people die every day on average over the past 5 years and over half of them are due to drunk or high driving. It is time to stop tolerating impaired driving. Our laws need to reflect this and our courts need to stop mistaking deferred or suspended sentences for accountability. What do you think?
