Last week, our Director of Training, Nichole, had the honor of leading the CASA Training of Facilitators where CASA programs around the state send their staff to be certified in CASA volunteer training. This was Nichole's second time as lead facilitator and we are so proud of her commitment to the program and her incredible training skills!

Every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and valued for who they are. LGBTQ+ youth face unique challenges that can impact their mental health, including discrimination, family rejection, bullying, and a lack of supportive adults. But when young people have affirming relationships and safe spaces, their outcomes improve dramatically.

For youth in foster care, having a caring, consistent adult can make all the difference. CASA volunteers help ensure children have someone in their corner; someone who listens, advocates, and reminds them that they matter.

As we continue the conversation around mental health, let's remember that acceptance, understanding, and support can change a child's life. 🌈

Meet Daysha, our Volunteer of the Month! 🌟 Daysha became a CASA volunteer because she experienced the foster care system herself as a child. Knowing what it feels like to have little control over your circumstances, she wanted to be a voice of support and advocacy for children facing similar challenges.

One of Daysha's proudest moments as a CASA volunteer came when her CASA youth reached out and asked her to pick him up after he had been living on the streets. For Daysha, it was a powerful sign of trust and a turning point in their relationship. More importantly, it was a decision that helped put him on a path toward a brighter future.

Her advice for new volunteers? Remember that, at the end of the day, you're there to love children well and treat them with kindness. These kids experience a rollercoaster of emotions and circumstances, and while you may not always have the right answers, you can always be the person who shows up, listens, and lets them know they're not alone.

Outside of CASA, Daysha enjoys being a mom, reading, traveling, playing Mahjong, and volunteering in her community. Thank you, Daysha, for sharing your heart, your experience, and your unwavering commitment to children in foster care. 💙
