Celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the The Oka' Institute, the John and Kay Hargrave Water Sustainability Conference, known as Oka Con’26, brings together leaders, professionals, and communities to explore solutions shaping the future of water and land stewardship.

This two-day event in Ada, Oklahoma features community training, expert speakers, panel discussions, and technical sessions focused on advancing sustainable water management and resilient communities. Attendees will have opportunities to connect through networking events and a collaborative luncheon, as well as engage with research through a poster contest.

Be sure to stop by the OSU Extension booth to answer some water conservation trivia! We hope to see you there!

There is still time to register for Data Centers: Considerations for Communities! It will be held October 15th from 5:30pm to 6:30pm at the Oklahoma County OSU Extension Office. This workshop is FREE, but registration is required. If you cannot attend in person, please still register. We are working on a virtual option.

Yesterday, participants learned all about Atmospheric Steam Canning during a hands-on workshop led by Taylor Conner, Family & Consumer Sciences Educator, with assistance from Master Food Preservers Alliyyah Omar and Hayley Twyman Brack.

Participants worked together to make Apple Pie Jam, then preserved their jam using an atmospheric steam canner. 🍎🫙

This was our final steam canning workshop of the season! Be on the lookout for more hands-on food preservation workshops coming next spring and summer. We hope to see you there!

🌟 Join us for the 4K for 4‑H Benefit Run! 🌟

Oklahoma County 4‑H is hosting a community‑wide 4K on October 10, 2026 at Choctaw Creek Park during Oklahoma 4‑H Month and National 4‑H Week. All ages are welcome; you do not have to be in 4‑H to participate!
Run to support youth programming, the Ronald McDonald House, or wildlife conservation efforts in Oklahoma. Registration is $20 per runner.

With a "nip" in the air now 😊, garlic preparation and dividing/transplanting perennials are a part of these September Gardening Tips!

• Place advance orders for garlic early to secure desired varieties. Begin preparing planting areas for garlic even though planting is generally delayed until later in fall. Select a sunny, well-drained site and incorporate needed amendments based on a soil test.

• Divide and transplant spring- and early-summer-blooming perennials as temperatures cool off. Water newly divided plants thoroughly during establishment.

• Leave healthy foliage on perennials until it naturally declines unless removal is needed for disease management.
