Looks like another week of high temperatures and no rain, OKC! Use these outdoor watering tips to protect your landscape and conserve water during the drought and heatwave.

* Water before sunrise to reduce evaporation and keep soil and plant roots healthy.

* Do a quick DIY sprinkler checkup and look for leaks, hidden programs, or runoff going into streets and sidewalks.

* Avoid overwatering. Lawns often turn brown and go dormant during dry spells. This is natural and doesn't mean the grass has died. Extra watering won't prevent dormancy, but the grass should bounce back by spring!

Some handy information for our pool owners!

Draining your swimming pool? Protect Oklahoma's waterways!

Remember, storm drains flow directly to local creeks, rivers, and lakes without treatment. Pool water may contain chlorine, salt, and other chemicals that when entering the storm drains, can harm fish, plants, and other aquatic life.

Before you drain your pool, follow these simple steps:

1. Check to see if your pool has a sanitary sewer connection. If it does, drain to sanitary sewer.
2. Stop adding chemicals or salt at least 7 days prior to draining or add a dechlorinator.
3. Test the water with chlorine strips and wait until the chlorine level is 0.1 mg/l or less.
4. Once chlorine is undetectable, you should drain into a grassy area, but you must discharge the water slowly to prevent erosion and flooding.
5. If you wish to discharge into the storm drain, reach out to your local municipality for permission.
