KindCraft We are a family service group with a goal of providing families with opportunities to serve once a month. Wow! Why is this so important to me?

KindCraft is a family service group that we started in hopes of providing monthly service opportunities for families with kids of all age ranges. We wanted the focus to be on building a foundation of service and compassion for our children. What started as a simple blanket making project quickly grew and we were able to take 50-60 blankets to Children's Mercy in December. The January event was to fill Toiletry Bags for Mission Southside. We were hoping to fill 50-60 bags for them and we ended up filling 245 bags!!!! KindCraft has grown beyond anything Courtney and I ever imagined and it is so exciting to see so many people that want to make a difference for someone else. It's important to me because our kids will follow our example...and if I am being honest here, I'm not always the best example. I will be the first to admit that I am way less then the perfect mom/wife. I constantly show them the not so great sides of me and often wonder how I am ever going to get this parenting thing right. Regardless of how many times I mess up, I want my kids to know love. Not only feeling loved, but how to share love as well. I want my kids to know that their parents love Jesus and are following his greatest commandment, to love Him and to love others. I want them to know how blessed they are. How carefree their life is compared to others. I want them to be able to see a need in the world and be moved to do something about it. We frequently listen to a song by Natalie Grant, Be One, and the some of our favorite lyrics are, "Why sit around and wait for a miracle to come, when we could be one!"
This group has amazed me. We may all have different reasons for serving & what we are hoping to teach our children, but we are all rallying together and serving to make a difference for someone else. I am honored and humbled to be a part of this group and hope it spreads like wildfire!

Who knew a grocery bag could bring so many people together? πŸ˜‰

At our KindCraft plarn event, kids, teens, and adults worked side by side flattening, cutting, poking holes, and tying donated plastic bags into β€œplarn”—plastic yarn that will be crocheted into sleeping mats for people experiencing homelessness.

Every step offered a way to help, from smoothing out bags to winding the finished plarn into balls. Along the way, families practiced teamwork, learned something new, and spent time serving together. We are so thankful to partner with Bed of Bags once again this year!

Thank you to everyone who collected bags, helped prepare supplies, and joined us! You helped turn everyday materials into an opportunity to care for our neighbors. πŸ’™πŸ©΅

One of our favorite things about KindCraft is connecting with our community in so many different ways! πŸ’™

We’re grateful Laura Knapp reached out about partnering with us through her school’s Kindness Club at Valley Park Elementary School.

Her idea was to piggyback on our Let's Make Plarn! KindCraft's October Family Service Project by having their kindness club do the same project! The kids collected grocery bags, flattened and prepped them, and made two balls of plarn to contribute to our upcoming service project!

Laura shared that the kids enjoyed helping so much that their principal asked them to make it a tradition. We love seeing one connection create more opportunities for kids to practice kindness.

Thank you, Laura and the Kindness Club, for sharing your time, effort, and enthusiasm with KindCraft! We will most definitely add your plarn balls to the rest that we make tomorrow nightπŸ’™

KindCraft gives your family an opportunity to practice kindness every month. πŸ’™

Through hands-on service projects, children learn to notice others’ needs, lend a hand, and see the difference they can make.

Join us as we build a kinder community together.

It's fun to look back at the myriad of ways we have tried to spread kindness across our community over the years. These adorable button cards were made and shared with our friends at Johnson County Aging & Human Services for their meal delivery program. We hope everyone is enjoying the (somewhat) cooler fall weather, festive Halloween decor as they drive through the neighborhood, and the sight of mums and colored leaves. We love a good theme at KindCraft-themes can be a great way to inspire service projects! What is your favorite way to give back in the Fall?

"My teens feel seen when they receive the Sack it for Santa bag, and it has items that they like and are meaningful. It gives them something new and fun at the holiday time which can sometimes be bleak."- a past Sack it for Santa recipient.

We would love for you to help us make this holiday season magical for as many teens as possible. Pictured below is an Art Themed bag donated by a KindCraft family❣️
