🚨 The search for the next generation of the Olympia Fire Department is officially underway! 🚨

This week, our team is conducting first-round interviews as we search for the next group of firefighters to step up, serve our community, and carry forward the proud legacy of the oldest established fire department in
Washington State (serving since 1859!).

To all the candidates sitting across from our oral boards over the next few days: Good luck! We are excited to meet the future faces of our fire family.

🔥 Early Morning Structure Fire 🔥

Around 5:35 AM this morning, our crews responded to multiple reports of a structure fire in the 200 block of Wilson Street NE.

Upon arrival, units found active fire coming through the front of the house and extending to the back. Crews quickly initiated an aggressive fire attack to get the fire under control and conduct a primary search.

Thankfully, all residents made it out safely, and no injuries have been reported to firefighters or civilians.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Please continue to give our crews and investigators plenty of space if you are traveling through the area.

🔹HOLD ON to your shelter until the shaking stops.

No sturdy furniture nearby? Drop to the ground next to an interior wall, away from windows, and cover your head with your arms.

To our candidates who didn’t make it to interviews this round: We are extremely honored that you chose our agency. Please, keep trying! Most candidates have to take the test several times before landing their first interview.

🚨 Rope Rescue Training 🚨

Last week, the Olympia Fire Department Mark Noble Training Center was proud to host an advanced rigging drill for the Rope Specialists on the Thurston County Special Operations Rescue Team (SORT Team)!

Local first responders spent the day sharpening their technical skills, mastering complex rigging systems, and pushing their limits during high-angle rescue maneuvers.

Specialized training like this ensures our multi-agency, county-wide team is always prepared to respond to the most challenging rescue environments.

A huge thank you to all the instructors, evaluators, and dedicated members who put in the hours to keep our communities safe. At OFD, we are honored that our training facility can provide a premier location for critical drills like this!

We absolutely loved seeing everyone today at the Olympia Fire Department Open House!

It was wonderful meeting so many new neighbors, showing you our engines, and sharing important fire safety tips with your families. We hope you and your family learned a few new ways to stay safe at home!
