Healthcare is the cornerstone of every family and community. We’re past due for equitable healthcare, and I’m always meeting with groups to best implement universal healthcare in Washington.

I’m fighting for a publicly owned bank in Washington state so our public dollars are continually cycled back into our local communities, instead of the ultra-rich bleeding us dry. We’re making real progress on this front and I’ll keep you informed along the way. Our Public Banking Work Group is scheduled to present a draft implementation plan this December, with a final plan due next June. We’re working to keep our tax dollars in Washington State, working for Washingtonians, not Wall Street.

I’m focused on making the 11th legislative district, and Washington, a place where everyone can thrive. Public infrastructure like schools, housing, roads, parks, and community centers are critical to this goal and build livable, nurturing, and resilient neighborhoods while creating jobs. It’s a three for one. Modern infrastructure is a core tenant of my work, which is why I’m so focused on creating a publicly owned state bank.

Last month, the President and CEO of Bank of North Dakota, Don Morgan, visited northwest Washington. I had the opportunity to talk with him in Tacoma about how BND works for North Dakota. Washington’s public bank workgroup is up and running and it’s great to hear stories from a state where the model is tested and successful.

A couple years ago, I had the chance to talk with students from North Dakota about BND. You can watch that conversation here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8B_3wwcH_s&t=1s

As we prepare for tomorrow’s match, I want to take a moment to highlight soccer’s role in our community. Last week I spoke with Eric Olmstead about Starfire Sports here in Tukwila and all they do for the district and region, especially for kids in the area. Take a look!

From Renton to Spokane, ferry routes to highways, every corner of the state has prepared for the World Cup and it’s time to enjoy the main event. Come on over to Southcenter and watch a game! This is a wonderful free gathering space where our community can enjoy the beautiful game together⚽

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at my visit to HealthPoint’s new Tukwila facility, including a message that will be in the building forever. This is important progress for our very diverse community’s health and well-being, including less traditional aspects of our health. Here, patients will be able to stack their dental, medical, and behavioral health appointments and pick up prescriptions in-house, so they can fit care into their schedule instead of scheduling around care. We’re just a few months out from opening!

I had the opportunity to visit HealthPoint’s facility in Tukwila, set to open late this year. The facility will bring medical, dental, and behavioral healthcare to Tukwila International Boulevard, due in part to state funds in the capital budget. I’m excited for the facility to open and start serving those in our district!

This Throwback Thursday, I'm looking back on my conversation with students from North Dakota regarding their views on the Bank of North Dakota back in 2012.
