Hawks, we have a VERY busy calendar ahead! Here’s what’s happening with the McKenny PTO:

📖 Read-a-Thon is underway until Friday October 30th!
Keep reading and logging those minutes! Remember, reading minutes earn prizes, no donations are required to earn them.

📣 OSD School Board Meeting: Thursday October 22nd 6:30PM
This is one of the last opportunities to give public comment before November 12th. Please consider attending and sharing your concerns about the school closure proposal. Sign up to make a comment:

Reading Takes You Places!

Our annual McKenny PTO Read A Thon kicked off on Saturday, and runs through Friday, October 30th! Join us as our Hawks explore new worlds, discover new adventures, and celebrate the joy of reading.

Students earn prizes by logging their reading minutes, no donations or fundraising are required to earn prizes! Every student can participate, read, and celebrate their accomplishments.

We know this is an uncertain time for our McKenny community, but our purpose remains clear, funds raised will help the PTO support McKenny students and staff during this current school year, including our wonderful spring musical with PNWT.

Every minute read is worth celebrating, and every donation is appreciated. Whether you’re reading, cheering on our students, or contributing, thank you for helping keep McKenny Magic strong. 💙

McKenny families and friends, we need our community to show up. 💙

We know the upcoming public hearing might bring up many emotions, especially for those who experienced the public hearing in 2024. We know re-engaging can feel overwhelming, particularly while navigating what it means to rebuild trust.

You do not have to prepare a speech or sign up for public comment. Simply attending is a powerful way to support our students, families, and staff.

Please also join the McKenny community for a wonderful celebration of our community with food, music and friends. The McKenny magic hour is starting at 5:00pm right at McKenny before the hearing. (Please note the pre-hearing party is not a PTO sponsored event).

📣 McKenny community, make your voice heard!

The public hearing for McKenny Elementary is Monday, October 12th, at 6:00PM at McKenny. Sign-ups for public comment are now open! In-person sign-ups will also be available at McKenny until 7:00PM, one hour into the hearing.

Please also consider signing up for public comment at the school board meeting this Thursday, October 8th at 6:30PM. We are concerned that the district’s current approach is aimed at limiting community participation. This is our opportunity to speak, and we urge the board to allow everyone who wishes to comment a full three minutes to be heard.

WHAT DOES MCKENNY MEAN TO YOU?

Some McKenny parents are looking to create a giant McKenny Magic puzzle and they need your help!

What they need from McKenny students:
🧩 Pick a puzzle piece
✏️ Write or draw what you love about McKenny
🎨 Color and decorate your piece
❤️ Add your own little bit of McKenny Magic

There are two opportunities to make you puzzle piece. Tomorrow Sept 30th under the play shed at McKenny at 2:00PM and Saturday October 3rd at Arts Walk at 3
Magnets Brewery from 12:00PM - 6:00PM. Art supplies will be provided.

Every piece matters. Every student matters. Together, we are McKenny Magic!
