For grandparents, saving for a grandchild’s education can be about so much more than putting money aside. It’s a way to say, “I believe in you and whatever path you choose.” 💙

You may not know whether they’ll attend a four-year college, community college, trade school, apprenticeship, or another qualified education program. And you don’t have to. Starting a WA529 account can help give them more options when the time comes.

Sometimes the most meaningful gift isn’t something they can open today. It’s helping give them more choices for tomorrow.

One thing we want all young people to know is that there isn’t one right path for everyone.

There are so many different paths to higher education, and WA529 has plans that can support your savings growth to get you there.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we’re recognizing the people, communities, and traditions that continue to shape Washington’s future. These communities have played a part in shaping our state and have made a lasting impact on our history.

Spokane: Named after the Spokane tribe, an Interior Salish people. The local tribal term translates to "children of the sun" or "sun people".

Seattle: Named in honor of Chief Si'ahl (Chief Seattle), a prominent leader of both the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes. His name translates to "high chief" or "generous one".

Tacoma: Derived from an anglicized Native Lushootseed word, Tahoma, which refers to Mount Rainier and means "mother of waters."

Walla Walla: Based on a Sahaptin word, Walawála, meaning "many waters" or "many little rivers," reflecting the area's streams and the local tribe.

Puyallup: Comes from the Lushootseed language, meaning "generous people", reflecting the character of the local Tribe.

Mukilteo: Derived from the Lushootseed word mukh-getSheet, meaning "good camping ground".

Sequim: Translates from Klallam roots to mean "quiet water"

Most people have to borrow money or take out student loans to afford higher education, but what if you could reduce how much you need to borrow in the first place?

Higher education should be accessible, and planning ahead can help. Check out our college savings calculator on our website to see how you can prepare for the future. https://529invest.wa.gov/resources/tools/college-savings-calculator/

Waiting until the end of the month to save sounds like a great idea… until there’s nothing left to save. 😅

A little extra money can go a long way toward your savings goals. 💙

Whether it's birthday money, a bonus, a tax refund or just a little more room in your budget, consider putting a portion of it toward your child's future.

The trick is to save it before you have a chance to get used to spending it.

Small contributions can add up over time, and you don't have to give up your coffee to make it happen. ☕️
