This week is National Correctional Officers Week. While many will never know the full extent of what it takes to don the badge and make a career out of the profession, it's important to acknowledge those that do.

While the public recognition for those doing a good job is low, and the threat of physical and/or mental harm is high, we truly appreciate all of the men and women who have stepped up to fill the role of a Corrections Officer 🖤🩶🤍

Round 2 of CIT complete! Our goal is to continue having these courses throughout the year to better equip our staff with skills to help those experiencing a crisis. Thank you to Sarpy County Department of Corrections and the Douglas County Youth Center for again, sharing some of your staff with us this last week 🙂

This week we hosted our first Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) for the year. These individuals spent the last week developing skills to safely de-escalate behavioral crises, mental health emergencies, and/or high-risk situations. Whether from the Douglas County Youth Center, Sarpy County Department of Corrections, or our very own facility, these individuals strived to better themselves and take away skills to add to their "correctional tool belt". Congratulations to all of them on their accomplishment of completing this 40 hour course!!!

It is with a heavy heart that we must once again announce the passing of an individual who was instrumental in our facility. Retired Officer Stephens Jr. has passed away.

Officer Stephens Jr. spent a lot of his career as a member of our training division. Whether it was our cadet academy, our field training program or our annual recertification in defensive tactics, his demeanor and approach to ensuring staff were safe is unmatched. You knew you were in for it if he "hadn't had his orange juice yet" and when it came to scenario training, he was "Spike Lee without the budget". But at the end of the day, he just wanted to ensure that "you go home and hug somebody".

Jr.'s lasting impression on our facility will be present for years to come as his impact on hundreds of careers remains throughout our walls today. He will be greatly missed and we offer our sincere condolences to his family. 🖤
