I’m excited to share a new initiative we’re piloting at Mission_University this fall!

Many students and early-career professionals know where they want to go but still need meaningful experience to help them get there. The Mission University Applied Innovation Program is designed around that gap.

Rather than beginning with a predefined internship or assignment, we begin with the individual: their goals, strengths, interests, and the experience they want to build. From there, we collaboratively develop a real applied project that also addresses an organizational, healthcare, educational, nonprofit, or community need.

Participants will serve as Mission University Applied Project Innovators and move through a 10-week process:

Discover → Define → Design → Develop & Test → Demonstrate & Translate

Mission University Founder, Dr. James Hauschildt be hosting a complimentary virtual information session October 15, 2026 at 9am central for anyone interested in learning more. Our inaugural cohort begins November 2 and will be intentionally small.

If you’re looking to build substantive experience around your next professional goal, I’d encourage you to check out the event information below and register to join us for the conversation. I’m looking forward to seeing the impact that our first cohort of Innovators create! 👏

Board Member Spotlight: Santosh Bardhan | India 🇮🇳

At Mission University, our Board of Directors brings together leaders whose commitment to service extends far beyond the boardroom. This month, we are honored to highlight Santosh Bardhan, whose work through Love One Another Ministries (LOAM) is creating hope and opportunity for children and families in underserved communities in India.

Santosh and his family founded LOAM from a desire to put faith into action in responding to the educational, health, emotional, and spiritual needs they saw around them. What began as a small step of faith has grown into a ministry serving children, youth, women, and families in rural communities.

One of LOAM’s most significant accomplishments has been establishing an elementary school for children who might otherwise have limited educational opportunities. Santosh describes seeing students gain not only knowledge, but also confidence, discipline, and the ability to imagine futures that once seemed beyond their reach. That impact extends to their families, as parents become increasingly engaged in their children’s education and begin to see new possibilities for their communities.

But the need does not end with education.

In the communities LOAM serves, access to healthcare remains a major challenge. Santosh notes that families may be approximately 100 kilometers from a well-equipped hospital, creating significant barriers to timely care. Looking ahead, LOAM hopes to expand health education, basic screenings, and ultimately explore the development of community-based healthcare resources.

Santosh brings this community-centered perspective to his service on the Mission University Board. In his words, serving on the Board is both “an honor and a responsibility,” and he sees tremendous opportunity for Mission University and LOAM to create meaningful educational experiences that benefit learners while responding to priorities identified by local communities.

We are grateful for Santosh’s leadership, his friendship, and the example he and his family provide of what it means to love one another through service.

As Mission University continues developing relationships in India, we look forward to learning alongside Santosh, LOAM, and the communities they serve by building partnerships grounded in listening, local leadership, education, health, and lasting community impact.

Thank you, Santosh, for your service to Mission University and for the lives you continue to touch through LOAM. ❤️

Some of the most meaningful learning happens when education moves beyond the classroom and into communities.

Future healthcare professionals need more than knowledge and clinical skills. They need opportunities to understand people, communities, barriers to care, different healthcare systems, and the organizations working every day to improve lives.

At the same time, community organizations have tremendous knowledge, experience, and relationships that can help prepare the next generation of professionals. There is enormous opportunity when we bring these worlds together:

Education. Workforce development. Community partnership. Service.

When done well, students don't simply gain an experience. They grow as professionals while contributing to the work of organizations and communities around them.

That has always been at the heart of what we believe at Mission University: meaningful education should develop people and strengthen communities.

I'm grateful for the many organizations and individuals who continue to teach us what that can look like.

🌎 Research should do more than generate knowledge. It should make a difference!

At Mission University, we believe global research should leave something behind, including stronger communities, better health, new knowledge, and practical solutions that continue to create impact long after a project is completed.

This is applied learning with a purpose: preparing the next generation of healthcare and public health professionals while contributing to healthier, more resilient communities around the world. Because the true measure of global research isn't simply what we discover.

It's what communities can do with what we discover together. ❤

Mission University is launching a 2027 service‑learning partnership with LOAM in Odesha, India that offers curriculum‑aligned experiential learning, community impact, and accredited credit opportunities for our students.

We invite deans, program directors, and student advisors to consider how this program can advance institutional goals in high‑impact practice, global engagement, and community‑engaged scholarship.

Program highlights include:

Education strengthening: LOAM volunteer teachers have transformed a neighborhood classroom previously lacking basic materials into a child‑centered learning environment. Through teacher training, mentoring, and provision of classroom resources, LOAM shifts overcrowded, lecture‑driven lessons into interactive, skills‑focused experiences that improve literacy and retention.

Community health capacity: LOAM’s health initiatives include basic screening clinics and health education workshops and have increased early recognition of common childhood illnesses, improved nutrition and hygiene practices, and reduced preventable clinic visits. Trained community health workers now serve as trusted liaisons to formal health services.

Our programs are credit-bearing, and have been assessed for service‑learning and internship placement, and can be customized to meet your specific course learning outcomes and competencies.

Next steps:
Reach out to receive call details for an upcoming info session Friday, June 12; recommended for program leads, faculty sponsors, and advising staff.

If you’d like a brief meeting to discuss specific curricular alignment, assessment plans, or credit articulation, reply and we will schedule a planning call.

🌍 Global Public Health Week Spotlight

Public health is about more than treating illness—it’s about strengthening communities, preventing disease, and creating systems that help everyone thrive.

This week, we’re highlighting four key pillars that drive healthier populations:

💉 Prevention & Health Promotion
From vaccination programs to lifestyle education and early screenings, prevention saves lives and reduces long-term healthcare costs.

🏛 Policy & Systems Change
Stronger policies—like smoke-free laws, nutrition labeling, and community-centered urban planning—shape healthier environments for all.

⚖️ Health Equity Focus
Reducing disparities and ensuring culturally appropriate care means meeting people where they are and addressing systemic barriers.

🤝 Community Engagement
Real impact happens when we listen, partner, and co-create solutions with the communities we serve.

Public health focuses on communities—not just individuals. When we invest in prevention, equity, and collaboration, we improve outcomes for everyone.

Cultural humility is at the heart of meaningful health research.

At Mission University, we believe that research must do more than generate data—it must respect the communities it serves, foster authentic engagement, and build lasting trust.

By listening, learning, and partnering with diverse populations, we ensure that our work is ethical, inclusive, and impactful.

Stronger relationships lead to stronger research—and better outcomes for all.

We are so proud of the Arcadia students traveling with Mission University and the heart they demonstrated during their time in Belfast.

Serving individuals experiencing homelessness — many facing complex chronic medical conditions alongside behavioral health challenges — requires more than clinical knowledge. It requires compassion, humility, patience, and a willingness to truly see people. You showed all of that and more.

Thank you for giving your time, your skills, and your presence to those who are too often overlooked. The impact you made goes far beyond checklists and clinical hours — it lives in the dignity you affirmed, the trust you built, and the hope you helped restore.

As we now transition to Dublin for the next two weeks, we carry forward the relationships built, the lessons learned, and the commitment to serve with excellence and empathy. A new city, new partners, and new opportunities to make a difference await.

Belfast is better because you were here —

With gratitude.❤️🙏
