McGoogan Library archivists digitize everything from works on paper to works created with increasingly obsolete technologies such as 16mm film. Check out our blog, McGoogan News, for details on 65 recently digitized historical medical films supported by a grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR).

Clothes don’t make the person, but they can give us real clues about how someone lived. Join McGoogan Library for our next Health Sciences History Hour (HSHH), Friday, Sept. 25th from noon to 1pm; presented by Collection Specialist, Savanna Falter.

This HSHH will guide viewers through the closets of UNMC College of Nursing students from World War I through the 1990s to see what we can learn from their uniforms and other work attire. Register here: https://go.unmc.edu/stitches

Healing at Home: Midwives, Household, and Everday Medicine
NOW OPEN Level 8, McGoogan Library, Wittson Hall.

Much of America’s earliest medical history took place not in hospitals or clinics, but at home. There, resilient and resourceful women acted as nurses, midwives and everyday doctors for their families and neighbors. Healing at Home honors these women and their stories through rare books on domestic medicine, midwifery manuals, infant-care texts and even an infant feeder built in 18th-century Pennsylvania. Learn from their lives on Level 8 or at exhibits.unmc.edu/RevMed.
