🌿 Our ISC garden is coming to life! 🌿
Here's a few pictures over the last couple of months of our garden growing! With new plants, flowers, cozy seating, and charming décor, our outdoor space is growing into a beautiful place for connection, relaxation, and community.
We love seeing it bloom-just like the connections here at ISC. 🌸

We extend our sincere thanks to the Metro Omaha Medical Society for their generous support in helping us purchase a new exercise bike for the Intercultural Senior Center!
Our exercise room is one of the most active and well-loved spaces at ISC, and this new addition allows us to better serve our members and support their health and wellness.
Because of your investment, more seniors in our community can stay active, independent, and engaged. We are truly grateful for your partnership in promoting healthy aging!

A few highlights from May at ISC!
We celebrated connection, creativity, and culture in so many meaningful ways:
👯♀️ Twins Day brought laughter and fun as participants showed up in matching outfits—double the smiles!
🌍 Multicultural Day gave our seniors a chance to share their heritage through favorite dishes and stories, reminding us how beautiful and diverse our community is.
🎨 We wrapped up our Joslyn Art Museum workshop series as well! Lots of talent and creativity shining through once again.
Thank you to everyone who makes our center so diverse and creative! ❤️

✨ “Being with people is better than medicine.” – Margarita
At the Intercultural Senior Center, there is always laughter, shared meals, and connection—but behind those moments, many seniors are facing real challenges.
Margarita was one of them.
After retiring, she experienced serious health concerns, including hospitalizations, weight loss, and a loss of appetite. She was also feeling deeply isolated.
And she’s not alone—1 in 3 older adults experience loneliness (University of Michigan National Poll on Healthy Aging). [michiganmedicine.org]
When Margarita came to ISC, she found something powerful: community.
That connection changed everything.
💛 She began eating regular, nutritious meals again
💛 Her energy improved, and she became more active
💛 She built friendships across cultures
💛 She rediscovered a sense of purpose
Today, Margarita is giving back by teaching our ISC Spanish literacy classes and helping others feel connected and confident.
She says it best: “Being with people is better than medicine.”
At ISC, we see this every day—connection truly is essential to health.
If you’d like to support programs like these or learn more about our work, we’d love to connect with you.

🚐 Transportation Spotlight: Juan 🚐
We’re excited to shine the spotlight on Juan, one of our dedicated transportation drivers here at the Intercultural Senior Center!
Juan says his favorite thing about ISC is the positive environment created by coworkers, leaders, and the seniors we serve. Juan's bright smile and great attitude adds a lot of the positivity at ISC!
“It truly makes me happy knowing we’re helping the seniors and people who need us.”
Born in the U.S., Juan is bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish, which helps him connect with a wide range of community members. When he’s not on the road helping seniors get where they need to go, Juan loves to travel—his favorite destination so far is Colorado. He says the mountain scenery there is truly breathtaking and something he’ll never forget.
Juan, thank you for your compassion, reliability, and the positive energy you bring to ISC every day. Our seniors—and all of us—are so grateful for you! 💙

We had an incredible day with Anne and James from Constantino Consulting during our Emergenetics training—and wow, what an experience!
It was engaging, insightful, and genuinely impactful from start to finish. One message we heard again and again was that each of us is exactly as we should be—our unique blend of thinking and behavioral preferences is a strength.
Our team walked away with a deeper understanding of ourselves and each other, along with practical tools to communicate more effectively and support one another.
One of our biggest takeaways? Our team profile is beautifully balanced across thinking styles. We learned that we are a true Emergentics "WEteam,” with a balanced distribution of thinking styles—22% Analytical, 24% Conceptual, 27% Structural, and 28% Social. It was powerful to see how our different perspectives come together to strengthen our work and support one another.
We also gained real, actionable language and strategies we can start using right away to strengthen our culture and better serve the seniors in our community.
Thank you, Anne and James, for such an impactful and energizing experience! If you’re looking for a training that is both meaningful and fun, we highly recommend Constantino Consulting: https://constantinoconsulting.com/

❤️ May 17 was World Hypertension Day ❤️
High blood pressure often has no symptoms, but it significantly increases the risk of stroke, heart disease, and kidney problems.
The good news? Hypertension can often be managed with:
✔ Regular blood pressure checks
✔ Healthy eating
✔ Physical activity
✔ Proper medical care
Today is a great reminder to know your numbers and use reliable resources—like our Blood Pressure Hub, available to all ISC members and visitors!
💓 Free, easy-to-use BP checks
💓 Track your numbers & learn what they mean
💓 Staff support and health education available
All made possible through our partnership with the American Heart Association - Nebraska. For more resources:

We love seeing community partnerships in action! 💙
Our ongoing collaboration with Immanuel Community & Vision Foundation and Peak Performance - The Running Store continues to make a meaningful impact, providing our seniors with expert gait evaluations and personalized support to keep them moving safely and comfortably.
The care and attention Peak Performance brings to each visit helps build confidence, independence, and overall well-being for the older adults we serve.
