Douglas County Sheriff's Office (NE) Sheriff Hanson welcomes you to the official page for The Douglas County Sheriff's Office. This account is not monitored 24/7. Call 911 for emergencies.

For inquiries, please call our front office at 402-444-6641. During the 1800's migration westward, many of the people making the long trip from the eastern part of the country decided to stop in the young territory of Nebraska on the western banks of the Missouri River. Douglas County began to grow and the people of the area wanted someone to protect them from outsiders and themselves. This need brought about the Sheriff of Douglas County and his Deputies. The first Sheriff appointed was P.G. Peterson. The first Sheriff elected was Cameron Reeves on October 8, 1856. Reeves took office in January 1857. There have been 31 Sheriffs for Douglas County; the first five prior to Nebraska's statehood. The current Sheriff, Aaron W. Hanson, began his term on January 5th, 2023. Today, with a population of 571,327, Douglas County has the largest population of all 93 counties in Nebraska, and includes the state's largest city. Douglas County covers 331 square miles bordered by the Missouri River on the east, Platte River on the west, Dutch Hall Road on the north and Harrison Street on the south. The County operates under a board of seven elected commissioners. The department employs 213 personnel, 141 sworn officers and 97 civilian employees, making it the largest Sheriff's Office in the state. The personnel deliver the full range of law enforcements services, including:
Patrol
Criminal investigations
Prisoner transportation
Courthouse/civic center security
Civil process
Foreclosure proceedings
Warrant service
Mental health and protective order service
S*x offender monitoring
Tax collection
Crime lab and forensic services

Early this morning, DCSO Road Patrol Team 4 Deputies performed a traffic stop near 108th and Boyd. The driver of the vehicle, Joshua HAGAMAN, was determined to be out of compliance with the Nebraska S*x Offender Registry Act (NESORA).

HAGAMAN was convicted in 2008 of 3rd degree sexual assault of a child. HAGAMAN's address on the registry is listed being in Wahoo, Nebraska. However, he informed Deputies that he has been residing in Douglas County, in the area of 116th and Burt, for some time. NESORA requires that offenders update their registration within three business days of changing addresses, even if it is a temporary move.

HAGAMAN was booked into the Douglas County Department of Corrections on one charge of violating the Nebraska S*x Offender Registry Act. Anyone with information on HAGAMAN and his activities while out of compliance and living in Douglas County is asked to contact the DCSO Tip line at 402-444-6000 or [email protected]. HAGAMAN is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Don’t be surprised by what is in your medicine cabinet. If you haven’t used them, don’t need them, or they’re expired, drop them off at a collection site near you on Saturday, October 24th, 10am-2pm.

The DCSO Property and Evidence Division will serve as a takeback location; however, due to our parking lot's capacity being limited, they will be utilizing the lot to the Southwest of the Douglas County Engineer's Office. Visitors can still utilize our address for location purposes, 3601 N 156th Street. However, you should turn south instead of north when arriving at the drive that heads to our building. Signage will be posted on Saturday as well and a map is in the comments.

This afternoon, Deputies from our Special Operations Group had a fantastic time visiting with students who are interested in law enforcement at Millard North Middle School for Career Day. We were blown away by their thoughtful questions, curiosity, and enthusiasm about serving and protecting our community.

From understanding daily operations to learning what it takes to wear the badge, these students showed incredible engagement. Based on today’s conversations, the future of our community is in very capable hands, we have no doubt these young minds will grow into outstanding leaders.

On Monday, members of the DCSO Motorcycle Unit and Honor Guard joined law enforcement brothers and sisters from across the region to honor and pay final respects to Deputy Katherine Frank of the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office.

No distance separates the bond shared across agency lines. Standing shoulder to shoulder alongside our neighboring partners in times of sorrow reflects our shared duty, mutual respect, and lasting commitment to those who choose a life of public service.

Sheriff Hanson and the entire DCSO Team extend our heartfelt prayers, deepest condolences, and unwavering support to Deputy Frank’s family, her loved ones, and every deputy and staff member of the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office.

The DCSO Peer Support Team would like to invite all area ghouls and goblins to join us for a Trunk or Treater Spooktacular this Saturday, from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.

Many DCSO Auxiliary units, to include K9, SWAT, Nautical Services, and others will be there to give out candy along with firefighters from Bennington Fire & Rescue and Omaha Fire Department. We hope to see you Saturday!

On October 1st, DCSO deputies met with residents near 45th and Lafayette to hear their concerns about trespassing, vandalism, and homelessness in the area.

During that meeting, deputies also spoke with individuals who had been reported for trespassing, explained the law, and worked to connect them with available resources through our homelessness outreach coordinator and community partners. The goal was to address the concerns raised by the community while giving those individuals an opportunity to access help.

Last Friday, deputies, along with our partners with the Omaha Police Department, returned to the area for a follow-up operation focused on trespassing and made arrests. Four individuals were arrested for trespassing because they were located inside or escaping from forcibly breached vacant apartments. One individual was arrested for trespassing after being found passed out on a balcony blocking someone's ability to access their apartment, despite the presence of obvious 'No Trespassing' signs.

Community input matters. When residents take the time to share their concerns, we listen and take action. We appreciate everyone who met with our deputies and helped us better understand the challenges facing their neighborhood.

We’re committed to working with the community, addressing criminal activity, and connecting people with resources when possible to help make our neighborhoods safer.

Sheriff Hanson recently had the opportunity to speak at the 2026 Innocence Freed Rise Up gala. He spoke of a recent case that DCSO Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Investigators worked in conjunction with our partners in the FBI. Recently, 25-year-old Jaden Jonathan Blake of Abilene, Texas was convicted on federal charges and faces up to 230 years in federal prison due to an investigation that started right here in Douglas County with one victim. The investigation grew to include three victims from the Omaha metro area and 50 across the country.

Building safer neighborhoods starts with listening.

Our deputies recently joined neighbors near 45th and Lafayette for a neighborhood conversation. In the weeks prior, our office was inundated with complaints from homeowners and renters in the area with reports of trespassing, squatting, and vandalism.

To better understand the challenge, we brought everyone together. Sharing a meal, getting to know residents and those who were alleged to be causing the issues, and listening to everyone's concerns about the neighborhood.

We gave homeowners and renters tips for how to protect themselves and their property. Those who were reported to be frequent trespassers, squatters, and vandals were informed of the laws and where they could legally be.

These conversations matter. They give our deputies a better understanding of what residents are experiencing and an opportunity to work together toward practical solutions. Public safety is about more than responding to calls. It’s about building relationships, earning trust, and working alongside the people we serve to make our communities safer.

Thank you to the residents who took the time to connect with our deputies, homeless outreach coordinator, and partners in the homeless outreach community. We’re proud to be part of this community, and we’re committed to keeping the conversation going.

Before the badge goes on, it's time for relaxing in the sunshine. 🐾

Earlier this week, K9 Shiva's handler snapped a pic of her soaking up some sun at home before her shift. Shiva was rocking her pink bandana and a fresh coat of pet-safe pink paint on her nails to stand behind the fighters during breast cancer awareness month.

To all the fighters, survivors, and families impacted by cancer, Shiva and Team DCSO are backing you every step of the way.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Program provides a valuable source of comfort, spiritual guidance and support to both our deputies and the people they serve. Chaplains offer a listening ear, a calming presence and compassion when it’s needed most.
