Today marks the end of 45 years of Jazz in the Afternoon on KIOS. The final show airs today at 1:00 PM hosted by Mike Jacobs.
The program began in September 1981 hosted by the late Adrienne Pressley. She established the afternoon tradition and was highly knowledgeable about the history of jazz and always put together a great mix. She was a mentor to many of the broadcast students at Technical High School where the KIOS studios have been since 1975. She also co-hosted with Preston Love, the popular Love Notes program on Mondays.
After her retirement, Mike Jacobs and Chris Cooke took over the weekly time slots for the show and later, Deb Van Fleet and the late Gordon Spencer would host for a time on Fridays.
Through the decades we have strived to bring the Omaha metro area the finest in jazz, fostering an appreciation of the music as well as promoting the live jazz scene. We will continue to do that beginning next week as we embark on a new era in the evenings from 7:00-9:00 PM Tuesdays-Fridays. We hope you'll come along for the ride.
