This evening, members of the Tocqueville Women’s Initiative Advisory Council gathered with Women United and other passionate women leaders at the Joslyn Art Museum to talk about what it means to support families struggling with housing — and how we can take action together.
We explored what is truly needed to help families stay housed and stable, and how tailored support like the United Housing Network and the new Family Flex Fund can make a meaningful difference.
United, we’re creating a network of support that helps families stay on their feet and reminds us that care, connection and community go hand in hand.

We were honored to have Barbara Siemer serve as the keynote speaker for the Breakfast with Champions. Barbara, and her husband Al, serve as two of the leading philanthropists in the country. For the past decade, United Way of the Midlands has partnered with Barbara and Al and the Siemer Institute to improve outcomes for local families who are facing the imminent risk of homelessness in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro. We also had the great pleasure of recognizing Karen Hawkins at this special event. Karen served as the Chair of our Tocqueville Women’s Initiative Advisory Council for nine years (2014-2023), recently transitioning to the role of Advisor in February.
