Lady Gaga has serenaded us about one million reasons to walk away - and needing just one reason to stay. When it comes to investing the time, money & energy necessary to attend a retreat, often we easily find one million reasons to say no — but what if you need just one reason to go?
What if YOU are the reason?
My cohost Allison and I have created Flourish: A Retreat. We will be in Mexico holding a container of rest, intention, and love from 4/16-4/20/26. For 4 days and nights you get to fall deeply in love with you.
The jungle is calling. Say yes. Lean in.
I’ll post a link to a video where you can get to know Allison and I in the comments, along with a link to all the details. If this might resonate with anyone you know, please share it. A few spots remain - doors close 2/28.

The CJ Smyth House was built in 1906 and is located in the historic Gold Coast District of Omaha, Nebraska. The home was chosen as the ASID Designer Show House twice - first in 1980, and most recently in 2013. The property includes extensive gardens under the canopy of 100 year old oak trees. The home is the private residence of the Herchenbach family, who purchased the property in August, 2013.

I started treating myself to weekly-ish fresh flowers about 10 years ago. Sometimes I buy them, sometimes I barter for them, sometimes I harvest them from my own yard.
One of my favorite places to buy them is SR Pumpkin & Flower Farm. Tulips were on the menu last week (can't guarantee there are more - so please be sure to check). You can go to the farm and pick your own. You can join the subscription bouquet service (with delivery). You can buy flower starts and have your own mini flower farm. Check them out!!

We’ve been plodding through a basement remodel for more than a year. All the textures and details are starting to come together. Good things are worth the wait.

Lots of fresh snow here. It’s hard to measure since so much is blowing around. It’s so quiet and so beautiful and so dangerous. Severe windchills and drifting/blowing snow are the highlights of today — with arctic air continuing our very deep freeze through at least Tuesday. Stay warm.

Loves. Be easy and gentle with yourself today. Let that be the gift you give to you.
Christmas can be really hard. Holidays can be really hard. (Let’s be real - sometimes average Tuesdays are really hard.) We are grieving. We are lonely. We allow regrets and should haves and must dos and keep ups interfere and over shadow the invitation to just be right here, right now, exactly as we are able to show up.
You are loved. The world is better with you in it. I see you.
My sweetest, most intimate, tender-est moments are punctuated by whispers.
The tiny voice of a child sharing secrets while cupping my ear with sticky fingers.
The sweet nothings that are everything uttered hot and breathless - not so much words as vibrations sent through my body to my soul.
The melody carried barely perceptible from far away on the spring breeze that invites me to tilt my head just so to tune it in just a touch more clearly for just a moment.
So much time spent screaming, raging, begging to be heard - shouting into the abyss wondering why there’s no response.
When all along, it was whispers shaping, moving, intricately carving the mountain of my soul.

Family is our Business
We are not a business. We are a family. A family who happens to live in a historic home with a name of its own. The Smyth House is situated on a really beautiful piece of property in the Gold Coast District of midtown Omaha. The house was built in 1906 by C.J. Smyth. Our family is the sixth to call this place “home.” We purchased the property in 2013 and hope to have many memory-making decades here.
We have learned a lot about the history of our home in the last five years. We have also learned that much of that “history” is folk lore and wive’s tales. It has been a lot of fun digging into both the facts and the fiction, as all of it makes for interesting stories. We love this place. We sit on our roof to watch sunrises, sunsets, full moons, meteor showers, fireworks, bats, and sometimes, we close our eyes while we are up there, and watch nothing at all. Our front porch is a great place for coffee, cocktails, and just about everything in between. The fountain on the south lawn offers wonderful sights & sounds, and is a spot where many of us have been caught daydreaming. We have frequent parties to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, friendships, milestones, and sometimes, we throw parties just because. We have opened our doors and our yard for house concerts, fundraisers, and community gatherings. The Smyth House was built as a gathering place for family, friends, and community -- and it will continue to be exactly that while we are the caretakers of this grand old gal. We hope you enjoy perusing this page to learn more about the history of our home and our family.
Fondly,
The Herchenbachs
