📤This November, Minnesota voters will consider a constitutional amendment related to the Permanent School Fund, a resource that has supported public education since Minnesota became a state in 1858.
This question appears on the ballot: Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to increase the funding going to all school districts from the permanent school fund, which is a fund that supports school districts without raising individual income or property taxes, effective July 1, 2027?
Here are a few key facts:
▪️The amendment, if approved, increases revenue to schools.
Onamia Public Schools would receive approximately $54,000 annually to fund school operations.
▪️The proposed amendment does not raise property taxes, income taxes, sales taxes, or any other tax.
▪️Citizens need to vote to approve the constitutional amendment. Not voting on the question is counted the same as a “no” vote.
▪️The recommendation came from a nonpartisan task force and received bipartisan legislative support.
▪️The Permanent School Fund already exists and currently supports public schools throughout Minnesota.
▪️The fund remains dedicated to supporting public education.
▪️The fund has grown to more than $2.3 billion through revenue generated from school trust lands and investment earnings.
The proposal is designed to help today's students benefit while preserving the fund for future generations.
