Three in C--a lecture/recital

I’ll be offering a lecture/recital featuring 3 sonatas from the Classical era on Wednesday, October 28, at 3 p.m., at the Cokesbury Cultural Center. Please share this information with others who may be interested. The program is free and open to the public. Thank you.

This lecture/recital will first address the question of tonality. What does "in C" mean?
That discussion will be followed by a presentation and performance of three Classical
piano sonatas: Haydn Sonata in C Major, H. 50, Mozart Sonata in C Minor, K. 457,
and Beethoven Sonata in C Minor, Opus 13 “Pathétique.” Written within 14 years of
each other, these sonatas provide listeners with a summary of developments in musical
composition during the Classical era. They reflect not only the character of each
composer, but illustrate the development of the formal structure called "sonata form”
and the expressive possibilities within that structure. A performance of each sonata in
its entirety will be preceded by brief explanatory remarks.

It is with great sadness that we share in the loss of our longtime Board Member Jerry Evans. He was a wonderful friend, a compassionate giver, and a huge part of Cokesbury's success. We wish his family love and comfort. May he rest in peace.

Celebrate the life of Jerry Evans and join others in sharing memories, stories, and condolences.
