Ten years. Same two people. Just a little older.

The first picture was taken in October 2016 while at a fire safety school visit. The second was taken today, almost exactly ten years later.

Back then, he was just a little boy standing beside a firefighter. Today, he’s a young man standing beside that same firefighter.

A lot has changed in ten years, but one thing hasn’t. We are proud to be part of a profession that gives us the opportunity to build relationships with the people in our community.

Sometimes we don’t realize the impact of a simple moment until we look back years later.

Here’s to ten years of growing up, growing older, and making memories along the way.

Oneonta Fire & Rescue would like to thank the UAB Burn and Trauma Unit for coming to Oneonta today to provide valuable training to our personnel.

Today’s training focused on updated burn care and treatment techniques for patients in the prehospital emergency setting. Continuing education like this helps ensure our firefighters and emergency medical personnel are prepared to provide the best possible care to burn victims when every second counts.

Did you know? Approximately 73% of burn injuries occur in the home. This serves as an important reminder of the need for fire prevention, safety awareness, and having working smoke alarms in every home.

We appreciate the UAB Burn Unit team for sharing their knowledge and expertise and for their continued commitment to improving patient care across Alabama.

We also appreciate Wallace State Community College Oneonta Campus for allowing us to utilize their facilities. They are always very supportive of our agency.

We’re proud to share that our own Sgt. Jonathan Ledbetter is featured in Episode 3 of the Alabama’s Fire Service Podcast, titled “More Than Fire Prevention.”

In this episode, Jonathan joins Capt. David Brasher of the Irondale Fire Department to discuss Community Risk Reduction (CRR) and how Alabama’s fire service is working to prevent emergencies before they happen.

The conversation highlights important initiatives such as Get Alarmed Alabama, Turn Your Attention to Fire Prevention, smoke alarm installations, and the role every firefighter plays in making our communities safer.

At Oneonta Fire & Rescue Service, we believe protecting our community goes beyond responding to emergencies. Education, prevention, and community involvement are essential parts of our mission.

We’re proud of Jonathan’s continued work in fire prevention, both here in Oneonta and across the state of Alabama.
